Appalachian State defeats Davidson 74-66

Omar Carter scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Appalachian State past Davidson 74-66 on Wednesday night.

The Mountaineers (6-7, 2-1 Southern Conference) trailed 32-31 with 18:26 remaining, but six straight points in just over a minute — highlighted by a three-point play from Carter — put Appalachian State in front 37-32.

Davidson tied things up at 37 on a layup from De'Mon Brooks, but the Mountaineers went on a 10-2 run to take a 47-39 lead. The Wildcats (7-7, 1-2) would get no closer than four the rest of the way.

Jake Cohen scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Davidson, which shot 28.6 percent from 3-point range (6 of 21) and 55.6 percent from the free-throw line (10 for 18).

Appalachian State shot 55.2 percent in the second half (16 of 29) and outscored the Wildcats 26-14 in the paint.
