APOEL defender suffers heart attack

Christos Kontis, who plays for APOEL in 0 draw against Larnaca that will likely end his career.

Kontis, 36, complained of chest pains during the week and was faint after the final whistle. He played the full 90 minutes Monday, and tests later confirmed he suffered a heart attack.

"We cannot say too much at this moment. We will need to see what the tests reveal. I hope it is nothing serious. Kontis is very much loved by the entire APOEL community and we all hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery," said APOEL board member Takis Antoniou.

APOEL qualified for the Champions League group stage this season and will play Russian side Zenit on Sept. 13 in its first match of the stage.
