Angels' Weaver scratched this weekend due to shoulder tendinitis

Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver has tendinitis in his right shoulder and will miss this weekend's three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.

Weaver flew to Los Angeles on Wednesday to receive an MRI and to get evaluated by Dr. Lewis Yocum. He took a comebacker off his pitching shoulder on Sunday, but it's unclear whether the tendinitis is a direct result from that incident.

Weaver was scheduled to start Friday's game. Instead, Ervin Santana will start Friday against Max Scherzer, C.J. Wilson will start Saturday against Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke will start Sunday against Anibal Sanchez.

Weaver is 16-4 with a 2.86 ERA this season. The Angels will announce Weaver's next start over the weekend.
