Angels sweep doubleheader with White Sox

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kole Calhoun hit a two-run home run as the LA Angels of Anaheim completed a doubleheader sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 7-5 win on Tuesday.
Howie Kendrick went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Angels, who have won nine of their last 11 games.
Jered Weaver (9-6) allowed five runs on nine hits with six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings to win his second straight start.

"The story of the night was the offense, kept scoring and picking me up," Weaver said.
Conor Gillaspie and Dayan Viciedo each hit two-run homers for the White Sox, who have dropped the first two of this three-game set after winning the final three of a four-game series against Toronto.
Scott Carroll (2-5) was touched for seven runs on 10 hits in six-plus innings of work as he dropped his second consecutive start.

"I'm going to continue to work hard and try and be better next time," Carroll said.
In the earlier game, Mike Trout hit a three-run home run to help the Angels to an 8-4 victory.
The Angels drew first blood in the nightcap in the second inning as Kendrick singled home a run and C.J. Cron followed suit with an RBI single. Two batters later, a Grant Green groundout brought home another run for a 3-0 lead.

Chicago got back within one in the second as Alexei Ramirez was hit by a pitch and Gillaspie followed with his first home run of the season.
Calhoun launched a two-run shot of his own in the fifth with Green on base for a 5-2 advantage.
The sixth inning saw the Angels get another run as Kendrick singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Hank Conger single.

Chicago made it a one-run game in the sixth as Ramirez doubled with one out and scored on Gillaspie's single to right. Viciedo followed with his ninth home run of the season for a 6-5 game. Rich Hill, acquired in a trade with the Red Sox earlier in the day, fanned Leury Garcia to strand two runners to cap the inning.
Kendrick worked a walk with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to force in a run and give the Angels a 7-5 lead.
Kevin Jepsen and Jason Grilli each faced the minimum over an inning of work in the seventh and eighth, while Joe Smith pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his ninth save of the season.
