HAMILTON, N.Y. – Vlad Moldoveanu scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds as American University defeated Colgate 66-57 Saturday.
The Eagles (12-6, 2-1 Patriot League) took charge in the second half with an 8-0 run. Moldoveanu started it with a 3-pointer at 12:37 and ended it 2 minutes later with a pair of free throws with 10:26 left.
That gave the Eagles a 43-35 lead, and even though the Raiders (1-15, 0-3) twice pulled to within two, they came no closer and suffered their fourth straight loss.
It was the 11th time this season that Moldoveanu, the Patriot League's second-leading scorer, had at least 20 points in a game. That helped American beat Colgate for the 19th time in 23 meetings.
Stephen Lumpkins added 14 points and Troy Brewer 11 for the Eagles, who won for the fifth time in six games.
Yaw Gwayu led Colgate with 19 points and Nick Pascale added 17.
