American teen Francis Tiafoe, seeded No. 1 in French Open juniors, loses in 2nd round

American teen Francis Tiafoe, the top-seeded boy in the French Open junior tournament, lost in the second round Monday.

The 16-year-old from College Park, Maryland, was beaten 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 by Germany's Jan Choinski.

Tiafoe says he was "obviously feeling pressure" as the No. 1 seed and he "definitely wasn't expecting this tournament to end like this."

But he takes solace from knowing that 13-time major champion Rafael Nadal lost in the first and second round at Wimbledon the past two years.

Says Tiafoe: "Everyone has bad losses."

He'll now resume his online high school classes — he's a sophomore — and start getting ready for the Wimbledon junior tournament.
