Ambrose, Albany (N.Y.) edge Stony Brook 52-50

Tim Ambrose had 15 points and 14 rebounds as Albany (N.Y.) held on to beat Stony Brook 52-50 on Monday.

It was the first win by the Great Danes (9-12, 2-4 America East Conference) over the Seawolves (7-10, 2-3) in their last six meetings.

A 3-pointer by Ambrose gave Albany an 11-point lead, 51-40, with 9:46 remaining but Stony Brook rallied behind Bryan Dougher, who scored eight of his 20 points to bring the Seawolves within one, 51-50, with 1:20 left.

John Puk added a free throw in two tries, but Luke Devlin couldn't pad the lead from the line at the 0:16 mark after getting an offensive rebound. After calling a timeout, Stony Brook got the ball to Dougher, but his 3-point try missed with 1 second left.

Dougher, a junior guard, now has 1,003 career points.
