Alabama high school basketball game ends 2-0

An Alabama boys high school basketball game made history Saturday night setting the state record for the lowest-scoring game of all-time.

Bibb County jumped out to an early 2-0 against Brookwood and won by the same score.

Bibb County's Brandon Rutledge scored off a rebound after the team missed a three-point attempt in the first 15 seconds of the game, the Tuscaloosa News reports.

The last 31 minutes of the game remained scoreless as Bibb County picked up its 22nd win of the season.

It was the lowest scoring high school basketball game since 1977 when Durham Hillside defeated Roxboro Person in a North Carolina high school contest, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Ron Ingram, the Alabama High School Athletic Association's Director of Communications told the paper that there were no records of such a low-scoring game. Any 1-0 games that occurred in the state were a result of a forfeit.

Ingram told the paper it was the lowest scoring game that has even been reported.

After the first basket was scored, Brockwood intentionally slowed everything down because it was the team's fourth game of the week and players started to cramp up in the previous night's game, Brockwood head coach Thad Fitzpatrick told the paper.

Brockwood held the ball for the rest of the first quarter and the entire second quarter. Bibb County followed Brockwood's strategy in the third quarter.

However, nothing changed entering the final quarter. Brockwood kept its strategy to hold the ball, but Bibb County was able to force a turnover in the final 15 seconds of the game giving Brockwood the option to foul to keep the game alive.

Seven shots were taken in the final 15 seconds, but the score stayed the same.
