AHL's Chicago Wolves name MacTavish coach

Former Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish was hired Monday as coach of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

The Wolves are the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.

"We are thrilled to have Craig join our organization," said Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable as we continue to develop our players and create a winning environment in Chicago."

MacTavish, 52, coached the Oilers from 2000-09. The Oilers went to the playoffs three times in that span, including a memorable run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2006.

In eight seasons, he went 301-252, with 47 ties and 56 overtime losses. He also went 19-17 in the postseason.

MacTavish worked as an analyst with TSN after being let by go the Oilers following the 2008-09 season.
