John Force topped Funny Car qualifying Saturday in the season-opening NHRA Winternationals with his record-run Friday.

The 64-year-old Force, the defending Funny Car season champion, was the top qualifier for the record 147th time and 10th in the event. On Friday night, he had a series-record time of 3.966 seconds at 324.12.

Doug Kalitta raced to the No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel with a track-record run of 3.713 at 327.98.

Vincent Nobile led the Pro Stock field with a 6.510 at 212.73.
