2024 College Football Playoff odds: Who will emerge from the quarterfinals?

Eight teams remain in the hunt to win a national title.

The first round of the College Football Playoff is complete, and now, each of the four quarterfinal matchups have been determined.

Let's check out the odds for each quarterfinal game at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Dec. 21, as well as what to know about each game.

No. 7 NOTRE DAME (+100) vs. No. 2 GEORGIA (-1.5, -120)
Allstate Sugar Bowl
Jan. 1, 8:45 p.m. ET, ESPN
O/U: 44

What to know: The Fighting Irish have won 11 in a row, including their dominant 27-17 victory over Indiana in the first round of the CFP, in a game in which they led 27-3 in the fourth quarter. Georgia last took the field on Dec. 7, when it defeated Texas in the SEC Championship. The two squads have one common opponent: Georgia Tech. The Irish beat the Yellow Jackets 31-13 back on Oct. 19, while the Bulldogs edged G.T. 44-42 in eight overtimes on Nov. 29. However, the key storyline ahead of this game — the only storyline — is that Georgia starting quarterback Carson Beck will almost certainly miss the CFP after suffering an injury to his throwing elbow in that Dec. 7 win over the Longhorns. Enter sophomore Gunner Stockton, who has 206 passing yards and one interception on the season. Still, the Bulldogs opened as a slight favorite, despite the shakeup at QB. How will the line fluctuate in the coming weeks?

No. 6 PENN STATE (-11, -425) vs. No. 3 BOISE STATE (+330)
Vrbo Fiesta Bowl
Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
O/U: 52.5

What to know: Well, after Penn State demolished SMU 38-10 in the first round — PSU led 28-0 and 38-3 at one point — the Nittany Lions opened as huge favorites over Boise State. The Nittany Lions have two losses on the season by a combined 15 points, at the hands of two other CFP teams, Ohio State and Oregon. The Broncos' lone loss on the season came at Oregon by three points. Common-opponent math tells you Boise State should be able to hang with the Nittany Lions, but the spread suggests otherwise, after PSU put up 38 on SMU without a passing touchdown. Its defense forced three interceptions and had two pick-sixes. PSU has taken the field 14 times this season, and nine times it has allowed 13 points or fewer. Furthermore, only five times have the Nittany Lions allowed over 100 rushing yards, and no team has reached 200. Well, enter the Broncos and all-world running back Ashton Jeanty, who rushed for at least 127 yards in every game this season and crossed the 200-yard mark six times. Something will have to give.

No. 5 TEXAS (-13.5, -550) vs. No. 4 ARIZONA STATE (+410)
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
Jan. 1, 1 p.m. ET, ESPN
O/U: 52.5

What to know: Yes, after the Longhorns' 38-24 blowout win over Clemson in the first round, they are favored by almost two touchdowns against the Sun Devils, champions from the Big 12. How? Well, Texas only has two losses on the year, to the same Georgia Bulldogs. The two teams have one common opponent, as both beat Mississippi State handily, but the Longhorns showed just how potent they can be on both sides of the ball in the first round, jumping out to a 31-10 lead over Clemson after the Tigers scored seven on their first drive. What the Sun Devils will have to prepare for is the second-best defense in the country, as the Longhorns allowed just 12.5 points per game in the regular season (Ohio State allowed 10.9). And in 10 out of 13 regular-season games, Longhorns opponents scored 17 or fewer. So, will Arizona State be able to put points on the board?

No. 8 OHIO STATE (-1, -115) vs. No. 1 OREGON (-105)
Rose Bowl pres. by Prudential
Jan. 1, 5 p.m. ET, ESPN
O/U: 53.5

What to know: Rematch! The Ducks hosted Ohio State on Oct. 12 and won a thriller, 32-31, via a field goal with under two minutes to go. It was arguably the best game of the season, and most would agree it could have gone either way. Oregon went on to complete an undefeated regular season highlighted by that win, and a 45-37 win over Penn State in the Big Ten title game. OSU won five of its next six, including wins over PSU and Indiana, but suffered a bad rivalry loss to Michigan to close the regular season. Despite the Ducks' win over the Buckeyes, OSU blasted Tennessee in the first round, and opened as the smallest of favorites ahead of the two teams' quarterfinal matchup. The odds say it's a true pick 'em.
