    In pictures: Aviation pioneer Gustave Whitehead

    Before the Wright Brothers, there was Gustave Whitehead. Two years before the brothers' historic flight in Kitty Hawk, Whitehead, a German immigrant and aviation pioneer, successfully piloted his own powered flying machine, some historians say.
