Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has listed his gated estate in Marina del Rey, CA, for $2,995,000, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The harbor-view home sits on a private, gated street and features an open floor plan with marble floors and handcarved mahogany doors that open onto a private garden, the listing says. It also includes a master suite, a library, and a roof deck.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom house measures 3,237 square feet and is set on a smallish 8,640-square-foot lot.
Even though the property is short on land, it boasts proximity to notable homes, including that of the late longtime resident Ernie Banks, the Chicago Cubs' "Mr. Sunshine." Also nearby are impressive local institutions such as the Ritz-Carlton and the California Yacht Club, five-star restaurants, shops and theaters.
The property was purchased for $1,525,000 in 2011, records show. The listing agent is Denise Fast of Re/Max Estate Properties.
Abdul-Jabbar played 20 seasons in the NBA, including for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. The record-setting center was a six-time NBA MVP and a 19-time NBA All-Star. In 2012, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton selected him to be a U.S. global cultural ambassador.
The basketball superstar has also co-written best-selling books, including his autobiography, " Giant Steps."
