For the first time, legendary music producer Dallas Austin has put his futuristic modern home -- where A-listers such as Justin Bieber have been known to drop by and stay a while -- in Atlanta up for rent for $20,000 a month.
"It has never been officially 'rented' before," says listing agent Angela Beck. "Many close friends, often celebrities, of Dallas have visited." That's probably quite a constellation of stars -- Austin is the producer behind chart toppers such as "Just Like a Pill" by Pink, "Motownphilly" by Boyz II Men, and "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica.
Among the celebs who've stopped by is Bieber, who took up residence in the four-bedroom house for three months last year while he did some house shopping and worked on an album. Beck says rocker Lenny Kravitz stayed there for a bit as well.
Beck says the house shaped like a spaceship has been used as a location for a number of movies -- most recently "What to Expect When You're Expecting," starring realtor.com's very own Elizabeth Banks.
The movie title is fitting, because you're not sure what to expect in this home built in 2003. The outside is all white walls and race track-like curves, with a roof shaped like a lily pad that dips in the middle and lowers toward the ground at its sides.
Beck says the home was designed by Portland, OR -- based architect and motorcycle racer Michael Czysz, who has designed mansions for A-listers such as Kravitz and Cindy Crawford. He's been dubbed the "Master of Maximalism."
"It's unlike any property in Atlanta. When you enter, you feel transported," Beck says. "It's otherworldly, secluded, and over-the-top."
At 5,500 square feet, this mansion is certainly not the biggest -- but its design is singular. The main living area is formed by curves: Oval-shaped walls are made of glass, and a half-circle of sheer drapes form a backdrop for a C-shaped couch. A tube tower encloses a spiral staircase in the middle of the room.
Downstairs, you'll find a Zen garden full of smooth stones and enclosed in glass. A black-walled theater room features a bar with a window that looks out to the infinity swimming pool outside.
Austin is looking for a renter to stay for six to 12 months, which would be a minimum lease of $120,000. So even if you're not a celeb, "it automatically makes you feel like a celebrity just being there," Beck says.
