A lockdown at the White House ended Tuesday morning after a specialized bomb team was brought in to examine an unattended package across the street.

The suspicious package -- found in Lafayette Square, the park across the street from the White House -- forced the White House into lockdown for about an hour, starting at 7:10 a.m. ET. An explosive ordnance disposal unit went in to examine the scene. After nothing was found, the lockdown was lifted.

A brief statement from the Metropolitan Police Department said Lafayette Square has been cleared.

The statement said "no hazardous materials were found."
