Ted Cruz: Shutdown will be Harry Reid's fault

If the government shuts down Tuesday over lawmakers' failure to approve funding to keep it running, Sen. Ted Cruz won't be taking credit.

Instead, in an interview on “Meet the Press,” Cruz attempted to place the blame for a shutdown squarely on the shoulders of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

“I don’t want a government shutdown,” Cruz said. “I don’t think Harry Reid should shut down the government.”

After Cruz staged a dramatic 21-hour speech this week to support the House-passed bill to fund the government and defund the Affordable Care Act, Reid and Senate Democrats, joined by the majority of Senate Republicans, removed the latter measure.
