Pelosi Says Republicans Hiding Behind Troops

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said that Republicans are "hiding" behind troop funding by using the label for their proposal to continue funding the government.

Republicans are asking for a short-term continuing resolution, or CR, that would keep the government open and fund troops for a week. Pelosi said that the choice on the floor will be a clear one and there would be a vote against it. She added that if it passed, she'd hope the president would veto it.

But House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, continued to push for the short-term bill.

"We're doing our job today and the house is preparing to pass this troop-funding bill that also makes real spending cuts and I hope the Senate will find a way to support our troops and keep our government open," Boehner said.

Right now if the government shuts down, troops would continue to earn money, but not get paid until the government is funded again.

The minority leader said Democrats know who they are, and they are the biggest supporters of troops and that their past indicates that.

She said to "disguise their bad proposal" is a disservice.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., called it a "cynical ploy" and that the GOP is using our troops for a "radical" republican agenda.

On the overall negotiations, she deferred to Senate Majority Leader Reid, D-Nev., House Speaker John Boehner and President Obama who are hammering out the details. Pelosi said she knows they are "working very hard."
