The filmmaker behind the new Mitt Romney documentary said on “The Kelly File” the most unique thing about the 2012 GOP presidential candidate is he is a genuine family man.
Greg Whiteley's film, which premieres Friday on Netflix, follows Romney and his family starting in late 2006. It shows his first decision to run in 2008 and again as the Republican candidate in 2012. Whiteley travelled alongside the campaign through interactions with potential voters, preparations for the debates, personal moments with his family, and the final presidential election night results.
Whiteley told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly he believes a lot of politicians say they are devoted to their families, but Romney is the real deal.

“I don’t think it’s a news flash that Mitt Romney is a family man,” he said. “What I think is unique is that probably everybody that has ever run for public office has made a claim that they are a family man or family woman…I think the footage that I have is so stripped down and bare and authentic, that when it shows he actually is a family man.”
Whiteley also said it was difficult to watch the Romneys realize that they had lost the race, saying he was surprised the candidate found out mostly by watching cable news along with the rest of America.
“When it becomes obvious that they are losing it becomes just excruciating to hang on and wait for surrogates like Karl Rove,” he said.
