Krauthammer on Trump: ‘He’s a much better candidate than he was at the beginning’

Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer told viewers Tuesday on “Special Report with Bret Baier” that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, in an interview with Baier earlier in the day, came across as a more attractive candidate than he did at the beginning of the election cycle.

“I think he’s a much better candidate than he was at the beginning, much better on his feet in an interview,” Krauthammer said.

“When he started out, he wandered into a lot of Twilight Zone places, the deportation of the 12 million, the thing with John McCain. He didn’t do that [in the Baier interview]. He was a lot more disciplined.”

However, Krauthammer said one instance that might raise the ire of Trump’s critics was the businessman’s argument that eminent domain, or the right of the government or a builder to take away property from its owner for compensation, is a “wonderful thing.”

“It’s a big deal, and conservatives are rather concerned about that,” Krauthammer said. “I do think it’s a weakness [for Trump].”

Nonetheless, Krauthammer concluded Trump conducted a “strong interview.”
