Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., wrapped up his 2016 campaign duties Monday evening in Richmond, Va., arguing before an enthusiastic gathering of young supporters that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton deserves their vote because she is persistent and battle tested.

"If you try to do something and make progress," the Virginia lawmaker said as he regaled his audience with the story of Clinton's involvement as first lady in the failed attempt to pass health care reform, "there are going to be people who don't want progress."

Kaine continued, saying, "It was difficult for her personally. This is a moment where you learn something about a person in public life or in private life. What do you do when you put it all on the line for something you care about? What do you do when you put it all on the line and you fall short and they make it personal to you?"

The senator then explained that Clinton's subsequent involvement in getting the children's health coverage program up and running demonstrates she's not a quitter.
