Jon Huntsman, Jr.: Spending Time in All the Right Places

Fresh off of a commencement address and meeting in South Carolina with Governor Nikki Haley, Jon Huntsman Jr. has face time scheduled this week with another potential king maker. Huntsman is set to meet with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Thursday evening.  A Christie political adviser tells Fox the meeting will be in Princeton and it will be informal, similar to his previous dinners with Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and Haley Barbour.  Christie would make a very useful supporter because he showed Republicans how to win in a Democratic-leaning state.  He's known for fundraising prowess and has gained notice for fighting excessive spending.

Last week, Huntsman also filed papers to form H PAC, an organizational step allowing him to spend money and travel while he weighs a potential presidential run against his former boss, President Obama.  Huntsman's backers say this would be the last step before a full blown campaign, meaning there are no plans for an exploratory committee.

The pace of Huntsman's meetings and high profile events is noticeable.  His post as U.S. Ambassador to China ended a little more than a week ago on April 30.  The very same day his resignation took effect, he attended the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner in Washington, D.C., also known affectionately as the "nerd prom".  Before he reaches New Jersey for the Christie meeting, he's expected to spend two days huddling with potential donors and activists on Tuesday and Wednesday in Florida.  Later in the month, he'll step foot in New Hampshire for the Southern New Hampshire University Commencement in Manchester on May 21.  The same day, he has a meet-and-greet scheduled with the Windham Republican Committee.

And next month, the former two term governor of Utah will be a featured speaker at the 2011 Republican Leadership Conference and Reagan Centennial Celebration in New Orleans.  Huntsman actually served under President Ronald Reagan as a White House staff assistant.  Some of the other confirmed speakers at RLC 2011 include Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney.  Thousands of Republicans from across the country are expected to attend the event.
