LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A former campaign worker for U.S. Sen. Rand Paul has agreed to serve probation and pay medical expenses in a misdemeanor assault case involving a liberal activist during the 2010 election.
Assistant Fayette County Attorney Jackie Alexander said that under an Alford plea, 53-year-old Tim Profitt received a year of unsupervised probation and agreed to pay $600 to cover the medical bills of 23-year-old Lauren Valle with the group MoveOn.org.
By entering an Alford plea Monday, Profitt acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him but didn't admit guilt.

The incident took place Oct. 25 in Lexington outside the studio where Paul, a Republican, and Democrat Jack Conway debated.
Video of the incident showed Valle being pulled down, her faced pinned to the concrete and then being stepped on.
