Boehner dresses down House members for not dressing up

House Speaker John Boehner gave the chamber's 400-plus members a few reminders Wednesday about decorum inside the halls of Congress -- including rules on punctuality and proper attire.

The Ohio Republican delivered the subtle reprimands from his Speaker Chair on the House floor, telling the offenders “You know who you are.”

Male members are supposed to wear a coat and tie on the floor,where final votes are cast.

Some members, notably Rep. Sam Graves, R-Mo., and Duncan Hunter Jr., R-Calif., routinely show up in leather jackets and blue jeans.

Boehner also told members they must start arriving on time to vote, which resulted in a bipartisan round of applause.

“Hallelujah,” said Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska.

“This has been an ongoing problem,” Boehner said. “Members should make every attempt to appear in the chamber within the prescribed 15 minutes."

Boehner also told members they should refrain from taking photographs in the chamber because it presents security and privacy challenges.
