Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer Wants to Push Up Presidential Primary Election

If Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has her way, Republican candidates will be visiting her state a little earlier for the presidential primaries.
The GOP governor wants to push up the election to Jan. 31, in hopes of drawing candidates and drawing national attention.
Brewer says in a statement that Arizona is at the forefront of advancing solutions to national issues such as illegal immigration and border security, Medicaid spending and the fiscal crisis. She says it only makes sense that the state be positioned to have its voice heard when it comes to the presidential nomination process.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Brewer says an earlier election would ensure that Arizonans are major players in the 2012 Republican campaign.
She can make the move by proclamation. But it could cost the state some of its delegates to the GOP national convention in Tampa, Fla.
