USA and Brazil scoreless at halftime in gold medal match

The score at halftime in the gold medal match between the USWNT and Brazil remained 0-0 after six minutes of stoppage time, but Brazil entered the locker room having put on a dominant performance.

Brazil had 54% ball possession and four shots on their American counterparts, keeping goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and defender Naomi Girma on their toes for much of the match.

Brazil, who has twice been denied Olympic gold by the USWNT, found the net early on but an offsides call would keep the score leveled.

The call was reviewed and no goal was rewarded.

Nelly Korda’s medal hopes slashed with triple bogey on 15th hole

Nelly Korda was within striking distance of a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics for the first three days of competition, but she is sitting +3 on the day and 1-under par for the tournament after 17 holes on Saturday.

After putting a ball in the water at the 15th hole and triple bogeying the hole, Korda's medal hopes are on life support.

The world no.1 ranked golfer struggled with the last four holes of the course all week. At one point during the second round, she held sole possession of second place before a quad bogey on the 16th hole followed by a bogey on the 17th hole.

Barring something extraordinary, it seems unlikely Korda will medal in the women’s Olympic Golf tournament.

Ryan Canfield contributed to this report.

Harrison, 22, finished one hundredths of a second behind Vincent, who set the world record with her time of 44.12 seconds.

In Tokyo, 19-year-old Harrison became the first American to win gold in sprint canoe and was just the second-youngest woman in Olympics history to win a title in the sport.

USWNT seeks fifth Olympic gold medal in final vs. Brazil

The U.S. women’s soccer team is back in the gold medal match for the first time since 2012 after going undefeated in the group stages and winning a pair of extra-time victories over both Japan and Germany in the knockout.

They will face off against Brazil on Saturday in a rematch of the 2008 and 2004 Summer Olympics where Brazil settled for a silver medal in both finals against the U.S.

Brazil has never won a gold medal, but is hoping to do so with star striker Marta in what will be her international send-off.

Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
