Half-sibling of alleged New Orleans attacker says brother was radicalized, struggled to find himself

The half-brother of the terrorist suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar blamed radicalization for the attack on New Year's Day in New Orleans.

Fox News spoke with Abdur Rahim-Jabbar in Beaumont, Texas, where they grew up alongside three additional siblings.

Abdur said that they grew up Muslim, along with his whole family. He said that Jabbar stepped away from Islam, but found his way back following his 2022 divorce.

Jabbar struggled to find himself throughout his life, his half-brother told Fox News. He said that his half-brother joined the army to “find something, to set him straight, ground him, and maybe find a viable career path.”

Following Jabbar's two divorces, his brother said that he was “looking for some type of guidance.”

His half-brother blamed radicalization for the attack and said that he did not see any signs prior to the attack, as well as expressing his condolences for the 15 lives lost.

He said this “was not a direct reflection of his brother and the Muslim community.”

FBI says it was at New Orleans terror suspect's Texas home 'all night' before leaving

The FBI said agents were at the Texas home of Shamsud Din Jabbar before leaving and releasing the scene, following video footage posted to social media showing journalists rummaging through the residence on Thursday.

Photos of the inside of Jabbar’s mobile home in a majority-Muslim neighborhood in north Houston revealed multiple copies of the Quran, a book on Christianity and a book about teaching children about Islam.

“Once the FBI releases the scene, the property owners can do with that property as they’d like," an FBI spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "In this case, if they want to allow news crews in, they can.”

“We were there all night. That scene was cleared. We got what we needed," the spokesperson said.

The owner of the property has allowed news crews in the past after police searches.

After chants of 'U-S-A!' Notre Dame tops Georgia to win Sugar Bowl in New Orleans

The Fighting Irish are moving on in the College Football Playoff, as No. 7 Notre Dame took down No. 2 Georgia, 23-10, to earn their spot in the semifinals.

Notre Dame will now face No. 6 Penn State, who beat No. 3 Boise State, on Jan. 9 to determine who will head to the national championship game.

This game was supposed to be played on Wednesday night, but the horrific terror attack in New Orleans forced a postponement to Thursday afternoon. The Caesars Superdome was still packed for the matchup, where a moment of silence was had for those who were killed or injured by the senseless act of violence.

Chants of "U-S-A!" were also heard before the singing of the national anthem was heard throughout the stadium.

Once play began, the two teams showcased their suffocating defenses, as both were unable to find points on the scoreboard until the Bulldogs finally kicked a 41-yard field goal to make it 3-0 early in the second quarter.

Former FBI special agent says Americans must 'stay vigilant' following Las Vegas, New Orleans attack

A former FBI special agent is calling on Americans to use caution when attending major national events after two deadly incidents happened back-to-back on New Year's Day.

"Sadly, we're going to continue to see these types of events occurring, whether they are ISIS-inspired or radical Islamic terrorist events or if they're mass shootings or if they're the CEO of UnitedHealthcare individual that just has lost his mind," Nicole Parker, former FBI special agent and Fox News Contributor explained to Fox News Digital.

"With a lot of these events coming up, there's just a lot of activity that's going to be happening with large gatherings, large groups of people."

Parker's warnings come after a man, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, plowed a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year's Day, killing over a dozen people and injuring dozens.

Hours after that deadly attack, a Tesla Cybertruck was blown up in front of the Trump Hotel Las Vegas, prompting fear and chaos to begin 2025. Parker said while these two events have been shocking and devastating, there has been a looming lead-up in our nation since the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre of the Hamas terror attacks on the Jewish State.

"There has been a lot of activity leading up to this moment. I would say for our country, beginning October 7th, from a terrorism perspective, that's when things definitely changed," Parker said.

"I think there was a lot of activity going on in the Middle East. A lot of these terrorist groups that people thought were gone, which frankly, they were. A lot of them were under the Trump administration. And then after the upheaval in the Middle East, I think it almost reignited a lot of activity and chatter," she continued.

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser criticizes NOLA leadership after Bourbon Street attack

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser criticized New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell following the truck attack that killed at least 14 people in the city in the early hours on New Year's Day.

In a series of interviews with local news outlets, Nungesser, a Republican, questioned the city's leadership and said he was frustrated by "excuses" related to the barriers that were missing from the entrance to Bourbon Street, NOLA.com reported.

"I've held my tongue long enough," Nungesser said of Cantrell. "Her lack of leadership is an embarrassment."

"I'm a little angry at the fact that some things in that French Quarter we've been trying to do for years have not gotten done," he told 4WWL.

Nungesser, who is reportedly the state's top tourism official, has pushed in recent years to exert more state control over the French Quarter.

In response to his remarks, Cantrell's office told the newspaper that it was too early to cast blame only a day after the deadly attack.

"The City of New Orleans will not be distracted by outside commentary and welcomes everyone to join the positive efforts of the unified command partners," Cantrell Deputy Press Secretary Kourtney Williams said in the statement.

New Orleans attack could embolden ISIS to radicalize other Americans, experts say

Shamsud-Din Jabbar's New Year's massacre in New Orleans, carried out with a pickup truck flying an ISIS flag, could embolden the terrorist organization to radicalize more Americans, experts told Fox News Digital.

Jabbar's younger brother told The New York Times he and his Army veteran brother were raised Christian in Beaumont, Texas, before the now-deceased attacker converted to Islam as an adult.

"What he did does not represent Islam," the younger brother said. "This is more some type of radicalization, not religion."

Retired FBI agents Scott Duffey and Chris Swecker told Fox News Digital Wednesday's attack could embolden ISIS, other terrorist groups or individuals who have been radicalized.

"This is a time where ISIS is under extreme stress, and their existence is being threatened in Syria and elsewhere. It would make sense for them to double down on their message to radicalize Americans to put them into action and activate any cells that they have in place," Swecker said.

Before his rampage in New Orleans, Jabbar posted several videos on Facebook declaring his support for ISIS, the FBI said at a news conference Thursday.

"In the first video, Jabbar explains he only planned to harm his family and friends but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the 'war between the believers and the disbelievers,'" FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia said.

ISIS and other terrorist organizations often use social media to recruit new members, experts said.

"ISIS and other foreign adversaries use all sorts of social media platforms to spread anti-American ideologies, rhetoric and propaganda," Duffey said. "It's free speech and designed to slowly convert young people to start questioning their American and religious ideals.

"It starts off (with) soft messaging to attract people into their thought process," he added. "Links are often provided that lead people to additional messages … sowing division and distrust of government in young impressionable minds.

New Orleans attacker had 'remote detonator' for explosives in French Quarter, Biden says

New Orleans attacker Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone and planted "remote detonator " explosives inside coolers in two nearby locations in the French Quarter, just a few hours before he drove a pickup truck at a high rate of speed into a crowd of people celebrating New Year's on Bourbon Street, President Biden said at a news conference Thursday.

"We have no information that anyone else was involved in the attack," Biden said during a news conference about his administration's 235 judicial confirmations. "They've established that the attacker was the same person who planted the explosives in those ice coolers in two nearby locations in the French Quarter, just a few hours before he rammed into the crowd with his vehicle. They assessed he had a remote detonator in his vehicle to set off those two ice chests."

Biden stated that federal agents are investigating potential links to the Las Vegas explosion, also probed as a terror attack, and urged them to "accelerate" their efforts. Fourteen people were killed, and Jabbar died in a shootout with police.

"As of now, they've just been briefed," Biden said. "They have not found any evidence of such a connection thus far. I've directed them to keep looking."

The FBI identified Jabbar as the driver who crashed a rented truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The bureau told congressional lawmakers on Thursday that it had zero information about Jabbar prior to his attack.

Tom Homan warns US national security 'in grave danger' after New Orleans attack, Tesla explosion

President-elect Donald Trump's incoming "border czar" Tom Homan issued a warning about the state of U.S. national security following the terror attack in New Orleans and the Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day.

In an interview on "America Reports" on Thursday, the former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director said the United States is in imminent danger as the southern border remains vulnerable to national security.

"We're not out of the woods," Homan said. "This country is in grave danger. We need to secure that border, and despite what's happened in the last two days in Las Vegas and in New Orleans, this administration is not stopping. They're still releasing thousands of people every week… without proper vetting."

"We've got a record number of known gotaways. Over 2 million people entered this country. We don't know who they are or where they came from or what their purpose was for coming to this country," he continued.

Homan said he looked forward to President-elect Donald Trump retaking "power" to "secure this border and protect our national security."

His warning came after the suspect identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar with an ISIS flag plowed into dozens at a New Year's parade on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 30. He was killed in a shootout with police.

In addition, authorities had been investigating a potential military connection between Jabbar and the Las Vegas suspect, who law enforcement identified to The Associated Press as Matthew Livelsberger. Livelsberger is suspected of being the driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that blew up outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day.

The truck contained gasoline and camp fuel containers, as well as large firework mortars, according to officials.

FBI releases images of truck terror suspect near Bourbon Street moments before attack

The FBI is asking for anyone who may have passed by or saw the terror suspect accused of plowing into New Year's Day revelers in New Orleans to contact authorities.

The agency released surveillance images showing Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, near Bourbon Street, more than an hour before the attack that killed at least 14 people.

“The #FBI is asking witnesses who passed him on the street or saw this blue ice chest containing an IED to contact us,” the FBI wrote on X.

The images show Jabbar walking and a cooler that contained an improvised explosive device that was placed near the intersection of Bourbon and Orleans streets, the FBI said.

He was captured on video just after 2 a.m. wearing a light brown long coat, jeans and dress shoes along Dauphine and Governor Nicholls streets.

Jabbar drove a truck into pedestrians just after 3 a.m. on the pavement on Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter before firing upon law enforcement after exiting the vehicle, authorities said. He was killed by police, who returned fire.

New Orleans attack: Inside Bourbon Street terrorist’s Houston home

New photos taken by Fox News Digital provide a look inside Bourbon Street killer Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s home in Houston, Texas.

Photos of the inside of Jabbar’s mobile home in a majority-Muslim neighborhood in north Houston revealed multiple copies of the Quran, a book on Christianity and a book about teaching children about Islam.

Jabbar, 42, rammed a white truck into a crowd full of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans on Wednesday around 3:15 a.m. He then began shooting at law enforcement officers, who returned fire, killing Jabbar on the scene. The rampage, which is being investigated as a terrorist attack, left 15 dead, including Jabbar, and over 30 people injured.

The FBI and a Houston SWAT team raided Jabbar’s home early Thursday morning. The team left the front door off its hinges and cracked open, revealing much of the house’s living room, kitchen and a glimpse of a bedroom.

From outside the front porch, Jabbar’s living room could be seen left in a state of disarray by law enforcement officers who searched the home. A black suitcase lay strewn on the floor and a dart board and fake fireplace could be seen on the far side of the wall.

Next-door neighbors described Jabbar to Fox News Digital as a quiet, respectful neighbor who was devoted to his Islamic religion. A bookshelf sitting near the front door seems to back his religious devotion, containing several copies of the Quran and books about Islam as well as one about Christianity.

NY Times reporter who interviewed New Orleans terror suspect years ago says he saw no 'red flags'

A New York Times freelance contributor discussed Thursday a college newspaper interview he had years ago with Shamsud-Din Jabbar, saying he did not seem like the type of person who would commit the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans.

Keenan spoke to CNN host Paula Newton early Thursday morning about the moment he found out that the suspect in the deaths of 15 people after deliberately driving his truck through Bourbon Street was the same man he interviewed in 2015 for Georgia State University's college paper.

"My head was spinning," Keenan told the anchor, adding, "What little I remember from that interview was a very cool, calm, and collected guy."

Jabbar attended Georgia State from 2015 until 2017 and received a bachelor's degree in computer information systems. Keenan interviewed him for an article about college life as a veteran in 2015.

"Nothing about his character threw any red flags," the journalist stated.

Keenan told CNN that his shock at finding out Jabbar was capable of such an attack was shared by other people who knew him.

"A lot of my colleagues at the New York Times talked to family and friends, and they’re telling you this was a wild 180," he said.

New Orleans terror suspect had Deloitte ties; firm assisting authorities

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the Army veteran who officials say carried out the terrorist attack at a New Year's celebration in New Orleans early Wednesday, worked with consulting firm Deloitte, earning about $10,000 a month.

In a statement, Deloitte said Jabbar had "served in a staff-level role" since being hired in 2021 and that the company was doing all it could to assist authorities.

"We are shocked to learn of reports today that the individual identified as a suspect had any association with our firm," Deloitte said in a statement to FOX Business Wednesday evening. "The named individual served in a staff-level role since being hired in 2021."

The firm added, "Like everyone, we are outraged by this shameful and senseless act of violence and are doing all we can to assist authorities in their investigation."

Turo app used in New Orleans, Las Vegas attacks: what to know

The trucks involved in the New Orleans and Las Vegas attacks were both rentals rented via car-sharing platform Turo

According to the FBI, now-deceased suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar rented the white pickup truck that he plowed through New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning as people were out celebrating the New Year. Fifteen people died.

In another incident on Wednesday, a Tesla Cybertruck loaded with gasoline canisters and fireworks near the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas exploded, according to local police. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the driver "rented the vehicle in Colorado and arrived in Las Vegas at approximately 7:30 a.m. and drove through the Las Vegas Strip until it reached the hotel where the incident occurred." There was one death.

"We are heartbroken by the violence perpetrated in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and our prayers are with the victims and families," Turo said in a statement to Fox News. "We are actively partnering with law enforcement authorities as they investigate both incidents. We do not believe that either renter involved in the Las Vegas and New Orleans attacks had a criminal background that would have identified them as a security threat."

The FBI said Thursday morning that there is "no definitive link" between the two incidents at this time.

Turo users book rental vehicles on the platform through a multi-step process.

They "enter where and when you need a car, filter to find the best one for you, and read reviews from previous renters," according to the car-sharing app’s website.

There are more than 1,600 "unique makes and models" on Turo, its website said. They are provided by "hosts," which Turo described as "everyday entrepreneurs who share cars in their communities."

Turo users can get their car from a pickup location or delivered to them, according to the company.

Biden 'glad' Sugar Bowl being played after New Orleans terror attack

President Biden sent a message to Americans before the Sugar Bowl between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish kicked off Thursday evening.

Biden’s message was broadcast on ESPN before the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

He offered his prayers for the victims in the New Orleans terror attack that left several people dead and dozens more injured.

"Today all of America stands with the people of New Orleans," Biden said. "We pray for those killed and injured in yesterday’s attack, and we’re grateful to the brave first responders who raced to save lives."

Biden said he was happy the game was back on after it was moved from Wednesday night to Thursday evening as officials swept the city for explosives after the attack.

"I’m glad the game is back on for today, but I’m not surprised because the spirit of New Orleans can never be kept down. That’s also true of the spirit of America. We just have to remember who we are. We’re the United States of America," he said.

New video shows woman narrowly escaping path of speeding truck terrorist

A woman celebrating New Year's on New Orleans' busy Bourbon Street narrowly escaped being struck by a driver in a speeding SUV intent on plowing into a crowd of pedestrians outside a fast food restaurant.

Video footage taken on Bourbon Street appears to show the vehicle hopping on the sidewalk, prompting a group of pedestrians to quickly move out of the way. Several ran into a Krystal's burger restaurant and others ran into the street to avoid being struck.

One woman narrowly missed being hit by mere inches as the driver sped past her. No one appeared to be harmed in the video.

What sounded like gunshots could also be heard off camera.

The manager of the burger shop told Fox News Digital that the footage was captured around 3:15 a.m. and that no one was working at the time.

The vehicle was driven by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who authorities said swerved around makeshift barriers and plowed into the crowded French Quarter, killing 15 people, during the terror attack.

Paul Mauro, a former inspector with the New York Police Department, noted that as terror attacks involving vehicles become more common globally, authorities "must make guarding against this part of their SOP (standard operating procedure)."

“Some of the worst crime scenes you’ll ever work as a cop or EMT are vehicle accidents," he told Fox News Digital. "A 5,000 pound truck at high speed causes utter devastation."

Image shows New Orleans truck attack suspect working while in the Army

An image shows New Orleans truck attack suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar working on a computer in his uniform at a military installation in Louisiana.

Jabbar, who served in the Army as a Human Resource Specialist and Information Technology (IT) Specialist from March 2007 until Jan. 2015, is seen working at Fort Johnson, formerly Fort Polk, Louisiana in a photo originally released in November 2013.

Following active duty, he served in the Army Reserves as an IT Specialist from Jan. 2015 until July 2020. He also deployed to Afghanistan from Feb. 2009 to Jan. 2010.

Jabbar originally enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 2004 and was discharged one month later from the delayed entry program, a U.S. Navy spokesperson told Fox News. He never made it to recruit training command, meaning he was discharged before he could have served in the U.S. Navy.

“Our records show that a Shamsuddin Bahar Jabbar enlisted on Aug. 12, 2004, in Navy Recruiting District Houston and was discharged from the Delayed Entry Program one month later on Sept. 13, 2004,” a Navy spokesperson said. "He did not go to Recruit Training Command."

Superdome welcomes Sugar Bowl fans after New Orleans terror attack

College football fans flocked to the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Thursday afternoon to get into the stadium ahead of the Sugar Bowl after it was postponed over a terror attack.

More than a dozen people were killed, and several more were injured, when Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the wee hours of New Year’s Day, officials said. The terror attack forced the postponement of the game between Georgia and Notre Dame.

While some fans decided to go back home instead of attending the game, others were seen getting into the grounds around the Superdome and going through security.

Authorities opened Bourbon Street hours before the game.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said he was going to attend the game.

"Security is going to be tight," he said in an appearance on "Fox & Friends." "We have all confidence that we’re gonna put this game on. The Superdome is completely secure. Again, the FBI continues to pour resources into the state."

Elon Musk sending reps to Las Vegas to help recover video from exploded Tesla Cybertruck

Representatives for Elon Musk will try and extract video footage from the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded Wednesday in Las Vegas, police said Thursday.

Authorities were giving an update on the incident when Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill was asked about the recovery of video footage from inside the vehicle.

“And many of you may know that those Cybertruck's, contain a tremendous number of cameras,” McMahill said. “Again, Mr. Musk has sent out a number of his folks that will be arriving here this afternoon with the intent to try to capture the part of that that captured all of the video from inside of the truck.”

The vehicle exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

The driver was identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, an active-duty soldier who served in the U.S. Army's elite Special Forces, known as “Green Berets.”

Livelsberger died and was found with what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police confident of Tesla Cybertruck explosion suspect's identity because of his tattoos

The tattoos on the suspect allegedly involved in the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck in Las Vegas helped authorities identify him, police said.

Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a member of the U.S. Army's Special Forces, was identified as the suspect who detonated the vehicle Wednesday before he allegedly shot himself in the head.

“There are two tattoos, one of which was on the stomach and one of which is on the arm that we can see bits and pieces of it, as in comparison to what it is that we now know he had, on his body,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Thursday.

“That has given us a lot of confidence that this is, in fact, the same person, as well as of which the clearly obvious, which is the credit cards, the military identification, the passport,” he added.

Suspect in Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas had self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say

The suspect accused in connection with the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside of a Trump Hotel in Las Vegas was shot in the head prior to the detonation of the vehicle, police said Thursday.

Authorities believe the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, police said. A handgun was also found at his feet inside of the vehicle, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

The suspect, identified as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, was an active-duty US Army Green Beret who served in the 10th Special Forces group and spent most of his time at Fort Carson, Colorado, and in Germany, police said.

He was on leave at the time of the explosion, police said. He was also previously in the National Guard and the Army Reserve

Authorities also said that Livelsberger also served in Afghanistan in 2009, the same time that Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, an Army veteran, also served in the war theater. Both men served at Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, in North Carolina.

It wasn't clear if they knew reach other, police said.

Defense official says New Orleans and Las Vegas suspects not linked by military history

Investigators have uncovered no evidence of a connection between in the Bourbon Street terror attack in New Orleans and Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas, despite the suspects' shared military history.

Both shooting suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar and explosion suspect Matthew Livelsberger served in the U.S. Army , but there is no evidence from their military service to make any connection these attacks were related, a U.S. defense official tells Fox News.

Both Jabbar and Livelsberger served at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg), but a U.S. official said there was no overlap to their assignments there. They served at the same base, but at different times. And for context, more than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently stationed at Fort Liberty.

The FBI provided an update on the Bourbon Street attack investigation earlier Thursday, announcing investigators now believe Jabbar acted alone in the terror attack, which killed 14 people and injured 35 others.

New Orleans terror suspect's brother says attack is sign of 'radicalization': report

The brother of the suspected terrorist accused of ramming a truck through crowded Bourbon Street in New Orleans discussed his brother's religious background in a recent interview and said the attack was an example of "radicalization."

Abdur Jabbar, 24, spoke to The New York Times in Beaumont, Texas, where he and Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, grew up, saying they were raised Christian, but the now-deceased suspect had converted to Islam.

"As far as I know, he was a Muslim for most of his life," the brother told the Times.

"What he did does not represent Islam," he added. "This is more some type of radicalization, not religion."

The FBI said Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas, drove a rented Ford pick-up truck laden with an ISIS flag, weapons and a potential improvised explosive device (IED) into a crowd of New Year’s revelers at approximately 3:15 a.m. local time Wednesday, killing at least 15 and injuring more than 30 others. Authorities said other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter.

Authorities say Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran who recently held a six-figure job, opened fire on law enforcement officers, who returned fire, and was declared dead at the scene.

NYC protesters follow New Orleans attack by calling for ‘intifada revolution’ hours after rampage

Hundreds of demonstrators called for an "intifada revolution" in Times Square on New Year's Day, hours after a terrorist with an ISIS flag plowed into dozens at a New Year's parade in New Orleans.

Attendees of the New York City protest — organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement, the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the People's Forum, according to the New York Post — chanted "There is only one solution: Intifada revolution."

Among other chants were "Resistance is glorious — we will be victorious;" "We will honor all our martyrs;" and "Gaza, you make us proud."

Protesters carried signs reading "Zionism is a cancer," "No war on Iran" and "End all U.S. aid to Israel," the Times of Israel reported.

"We’re sending you back to Europe you white b------," one woman wearing a keffiyeh shouted at counter-protesters in an exchange captured on video. "Go back to Europe!"

A speaker shouted through a megaphone that "2024 was a year of struggle against the crime of Zionism."

"We will be here every single year for generation after generation until total liberation and return," the speaker said, according to the Times of Israel.

Suspect behind Cybertruck that exploded at Trump hotel identified as active-duty U.S. Army soldier

The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that blew up outside Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on New Year's Day has been identified as active-duty U.S. Army soldier Matthew Livelsberger, The Associated Press is reporting, citing law enforcement officials. The officials spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation.

Livelsberger, 37, has several addresses associated with him and was on leave from Germany where he was serving with the 10th Special Forces Group.

On Wednesday, he reportedly pulled the truck up outside the hotel at around 8:40 a.m. local time, and it exploded about 15 to 20 seconds later. The explosion killed Livelsberger and injured seven others.

Authorities say the truck contained gasoline and camp fuel containers, as well as large firework mortars. Video of the incident captures the truck exploding in a ball of fire and fireworks can also be seen going off in all directions. A bystander can also be seen just feet from the truck as it goes up in flames.

An Army spokesperson tells Fox News that Livelsberger began active duty Army in January 2006 and reached the rank of master sergeant. Livelsberger spent time at the base formerly known as Fort Bragg, a massive Army base in North Carolina that is home to Army special forces command.

Livelsberger joined the National Guard from March 2011 to July 2012, followed by the Army Reserve from July 2012 to December 2012. He entered the active duty Army in December 2012 and was a U.S. Army Special Operations Soldier.

Additionally, U.S. Army Special Operations Command confirms Livelsberger was on approved leave at the time of his death.

Records viewed by Fox News Digital show Livelsberger's most recent address as a US Armed Forces overseas mailing address. Before that, a house in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, is listed, and before that, an apartment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. FBI Denver posted to X on Thursday that they are at a home in Colorado Springs and will remain there for several hours. The investigation is related to the Las Vegas explosion.

One relative told CBS News that Livelsberger's wife had not heard from him in several days.

FBI: New Orleans attacker was seen planting IEDs, claimed ISIS ties

FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raja delivered an update on the investigation into the New Orleans terror attack on Thursday just before noon.

Raja said at least 14 innocent victims were killed and 35 others injured by suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street, a famous destination for tourists. Jabbar then died in a brief shootout with police.

"This was an act of terrorism," Raja said. "It was premediated and an evil act."

Raja also confirmed that the FBI does not believe there was anyone else involved in the New Orleans attack.

The FBI deputy assistant director provided a timeline of the attack. He said investigators believe Jabbar picked up his rented Ford F150 truck in Houston, Texas on Dec. 30. He then drove from Houston to New Orleans on the evening of the 31st, and he posted several videos on Facebook declaring support for ISIS.

"In the first video, Jabbar explains he only planned to harm his family and friends, but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the 'war between the believers and the disbelievers,'" Raja said.

Jabbar also stated he had joined ISIS before this summer and provided a will and testament, according to the FBI.

Raja said investigators had recovered several weapons from the scene of the crime and nearby areas, including two improvised explosive devices in coolers located at the cross section of Bourbon and Orleans Streets and at a second intersection just two blocks away. He added that the FBI wants to talk to witnesses who may have seen the coolers containing IEDs.

FBI claims they had zero intel on Bourbon Street terror suspect before attack

The Federal Bureau of Investigation had no information about Bourbon Street attack suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar before he carried out the horrific attack in New Orleans that killed at least 14 people and injured dozens more.

Two sources on the FBI call with House and Senate members of Congress told Fox News investigators had zero intel on Jabbar before the attack.

Additionally, the FBI is claiming the suspect was "inspired" by ISIS but said investigators do not yet have evidence that ISIS directed the attack.

Fox News' Aishah Hasnie and Chad Pergram contributed to this report.

FBI believes Bourbon Street terror attack suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone

The FBI no longer believes there are other suspects in the Bourbon Street terror attack, Fox News has confirmed.

Authorities now believe suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Wednesday morning, killing 14 people before engaging in a brief shootout with police. Jabbar was shot and killed by officers who returned fire.

Federal investigators are conducting sweeps in three U.S. cities as part of the ongoing investigations into the New Orleans attack and an explosion outside Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday.

In New Orleans, authorities are searching an Airbnb believed to have been rented by shooting suspect Jabbar.

The FBI office in Houston also executed a search warrant at a home connected to the Bourbon Street suspect near the intersection of Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive on Wednesday. The area remained blocked off by law enforcement Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, in Colorado, the FBI Denver office executed a search in Colorado Springs related to the investigation into a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside of the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday.

FBI conducts search in Colorado Springs related to Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion

The FBI said Thursday it is conducting a search in Colorado Springs related to the Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday morning.

"FBI Denver; the Denver Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Colorado Springs Police Department are conducting law enforcement activity at a residential address in Colorado Springs," the FBI Denver office announced.

"FBI Denver personnel and specialized teams will be on-site for several hours. This activity is related to the explosion in Las Vegas on Wednesday; due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further information will be provided out of Denver."

One person is dead and seven others were injured after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The Las Vegas Police Department is investigating the explosion, which occurred this morning outside the hotel, located near S. Sammy Davis Jr. Drive and Fashion Drive. Officials are also looking at the incident as potential terrorism.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said his senior team at Tesla investigated the explosion and concluded it was not due to a malfunction.

"We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion," Musk wrote on X.

Sugar Bowl security beefed up to Super Bowl levels, official says

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said Thursday security for the Sugar Bowl will be beefed up to Super Bowl levels in the wake of a terror attack on Bourbon Street.

The Sugar Bowl between the Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame was postponed to 4 p.m. ET on Thursday evening after it was originally scheduled for Wednesday night.

Kirkpatrick appeared on NBC’s "Today" show and gave some insight on security.

"We are going to have absolutely hundreds of officers and staff lining our streets," Kirkpatrick said, mentioning Bourbon Street as one of the places where security will be increased.

"We are staffing up at the same level if not more so than we were prepared for Super Bowl."

Super Bowl LIX is set to take place in February at the Caesars Superdome – the same site where the Sugar Bowl is set to kick off.

The Superdome was also the host site for the Super Bowl that took place after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. Police officers and snipers were seen on top of high-rise buildings and the Superdome itself.

Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said Wednesday that "public safety is paramount."

Sugar Bowl announces new start time after postponement amid New Orleans attack

The 2025 Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia will be played less than 24 hours later than its initial start time after Wednesday's deadly attack in New Orleans prompted the game's postponement.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl officially announced Wednesday afternoon that the game will start at 3 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET) on Thursday. The game was initially set to kick off on 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night, and earlier reports indicated the game would be postponed 24 hours.

Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims of the attack, while thanking those who have accommodated the new start time.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as we work through this," said Jeff Hundley, the chief executive officer of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. "We have full faith and confidence in the governor and the mayor and all the federal, state, and local first-responders that they've applied to this horrific event. Any time we have an event like the Sugar Bowl, public safety is paramount, and all parties involved agree that could only be achieved with a postponement. Now we will move ahead to take care of the details to make the Sugar Bowl the first-class, fun, and safe event that it has been for over 90 years."

"On behalf of the College Football Playoff, we are devastated by this morning's attack, and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy," said Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff. "We are grateful to the leadership of the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, the State of Louisiana and federal authorities as we work together to ensure we can provide a safe environment for everyone. We are also appreciative of ESPN's flexibility in moving the game to tomorrow afternoon."

FBI conducts search at Bourbon Street attack suspect's Houston home

The FBI and local law enforcement partners searched the New Orleans attacker's home in Houston on Thursday morning, the FBI Houston office said in a statement.

"At approximately 7:50 a.m., FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff's Office concluded a court-authorized search and cleared the 12000 block of Crescent Peak Drive. At this time, there is no threat to residents in that area. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are unable to provide any details. FBI New Orleans remains the primary field office responsible for investigating yesterday's Bourbon Street attack," FBI Houston said.

The FBI previously identified 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, as the suspect who drove a Ford pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday morning. The driver crashed the truck and traded gunfire with three police officers before he was shot and killed. At least 15 people were killed in the attack and dozens were injured.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry says New Orleans is 'safe' following Bourbon Street attack

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said Thursday that New Orleans is safe from further terror after a man drove a pickup truck into a large crowd on New Year's Day, killing at least 15 people.

"I think one of the most important things is to make sure that each one of those victims, did not die in vain. All of them had come to the city in order to enjoy the city, in order to enjoy some entertainment and ring in the new year," Landry said on "Fox & Friends."

"Y'all had a guest earlier who was an eyewitness, who said the same thing is that: We can't live in fear. We need to be able to live our lives. And what we plan to do is ensure that as we remember those folks, that we put New Orleans back in a position where people can come and have a good time. We believe that the city – I'm convinced that the city is safe."

Speaker Mike Johnson sounds alarm on border crisis after New Orleans attack: 'Dereliction of duty'

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., slammed the Biden administration's border policies after the New Orleans terror attack in his home state.

In an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Johnson condemned the Bourbon Street attack as an "act of pure evil" and expressed confidence that the FBI and state investigators would find out how suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar planned and executed the attack, and if he acted alone. However, he said not enough attention is being paid to what he called a dereliction of duty by the Biden administration on the southern border.

"We all know that for the last four years the Biden administration has been completely derelict in its duty. The congressional Republicans, we here in the House and the Senate, have repeatedly asked the DHS under the Biden administration about the correlation, the obvious concern about terrorism and the wide-open border," Johnson said.

The FBI said Jabbar is a U.S. citizen from Houston, Texas, who had declared support for ISIS before Wednesday's attack.

Who is Shamsud-Din Jabbar? What we know about the New Orleans New Years' terrorist suspect

The suspect who allegedly drove into a joyous crowd at a New Year's celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens, has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar by the FBI.

Jabbar—who died at the scene of the attack—was a U.S.-born citizen who lived in Texas, FBI Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Alethea Duncan said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference.

In 2012, Jabbar and Nakedra Charrlle Jabbar's marriage came to an end. The New York Times reported that his second marriage also came to an end in 2022.

The Times also reported that the pair shared two children together. Court documents reviewed by Fox News Digital showed that Jabbar missed child support payments to the couple's children.

The FBI also revealed that Jabbar was an Army veteran.

"What I can tell you, the person was an Army veteran," Duncan said. "We believe he was [an] honorable discharge. But we're working through this process to figure out all this information."

Jabbar served in the Army as a Human Resource Specialist and Information Technology (IT) Specialist from March 2007 until Jan. 2015.

Following active duty, he served in the Army Reserves as an IT Specialist from Jan. 2015 until July 2020.

During his tenure, he deployed to Afghanistan from Feb. 2009 to Jan. 2010.

He was also awarded a variety of distinguishments throughout his service, including a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

His awards included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign star, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, NATO Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Parachutist Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Prior to his service in the Army, Fox News confirmed that he attempted to first join the Navy. He was discharged before he could have served in the Navy.

"Our records show that a Shamsuddin Bahar Jabbar enlisted on Aug. 12, 2004, in Navy Recruiting District Houston and was discharged from the Delayed Entry Program one month later on Sept. 13, 2004. He did not go to Recruit Training Command," the spokesperson with the U.S. Navy said.

Suspect's Army commander reacts to Bourbon Street terror attack: 'I am in utter disbelief'

U.S. Army Col. Rich Groen, who served as the commanding officer over Bourbon Street attack suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar, expressed shock and disbelief at Wednesday's horror in New Orleans.

"As I process the devastating events that unfolded in New Orleans, I am in utter disbelief," Groen posted on X. "Shamsud-Din Jabbar served under my Troop Command during our deployment to Afghanistan."

"He worked quietly and professionally in the S1 shop and as a mail clerk, ensuring the little things that kept us all connected to home were done with care and precision. He was a great Soldier, someone who showed discipline and dedication.

"To think that the same individual who once embodied quiet professionalism could harbor so much hate, leading to such unspeakable atrocities, is incomprehensible and heartbreaking. This transformation is a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked anger, isolation, and hate."

"Please watch out for one another," Groen urged. "Be there for your brothers and sisters in arms, your friends, and even those who seem distant or troubled. Don’t let hate take root—either in your own heart or in the hearts of those around you. We must care for one another before it’s too late.

"My prayers go out to the victims and their families. May they find strength in this time of unimaginable grief. Let’s honor their memory by ensuring we stand together against hate in all its forms."

Louisiana AG seeking more answers from FBI amid manhunt for persons of interest in terror attack

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill believes the Sugar Bowl college football game should be postponed while persons of interest in the Bourbon Street terror attack may still be at large.

Murrill joined "Fox & Friends" on Thursday to discuss security in New Orleans after suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar allegedly drove a pickup truck into a large crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more. The FBI has said it does not believe Jabbar acted alone.

"Yesterday there were discussions about whether to have the game last night, which I frankly thought was absurd. We still had bodies that had to be removed from the ground and an open investigation to secure the crime scene. And so, you know, it seemed to me that was not a hard decision to make," Murrill said.

The attorney general said she will push federal law enforcement to keep this case a top priority until all possible suspects are apprehended and she expressed reservations about proceeding with the Sugar Bowl while the investigation is ongoing.

"I do feel like the city is secure," Murrill said. "But, you know, we have 16 people who are dead. Their families are grieving. We have at least 10 more that are clinging to life in the hospital. And, you know, I think that there's a certain degree of respect that we owe to the dead and to their families and the victims, and to acknowledge and recognize that this is an open investigation into a terrorist event."

She also shared that the FBI has not provided her office with "a lot of information" about the investigation, noting it was a "fluid situation" on Wednesday and public officials were working to secure the city.

Trump calls US ‘disaster’ after Bourbon Street terror attack, Cybertruck explosion

President-elect Trump late Wednesday weighed in after 15 people were killed in a terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and a cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas killed another.

In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called the U.S. a “disaster” and a “laughing stock all over the World!”

“This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership,” Trump wrote.

Authorities have identified the suspect in the Bourbon Street terror attack as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas, and a U.S. Army veteran. The identity or citizenship status of the suspect in the Cybertruck explosion is not clear at this time.

Trump also blasted the Justice Department, the FBI and Democrat state and local prosecutors.

“They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself,” Trump said. “Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our Country.”

Trump called on the CIA to get involved “before it is too late.”

“The USA is breaking down - A violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation,” Trump said. “Only strength and powerful leadership will stop it. See you on January 20th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

FBI releases new photo of suspect in Bourbon Street terror attack

The FBI late Wednesday released a more recent photo of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Year’s Day terror attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans that killed 15 people and injured others.

The FBI said 42-year-old Jabbar is a U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas.

“FBI special agents and our law enforcement partners are currently conducting a number of court-authorized search warrants in New Orleans and other states,” the bureau said in a statement. “The FBI's Evidence Response Team continues to process the crime scene to meticulously gather all relevant evidence.”

The FBI said it plans to turn over the Bourbon Street crime scene to local authorities early Thursday morning.

President Biden said earlier Wednesday that the U.S. Army veteran who drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers in New Orleans had posted videos to social media hours before the carnage saying he was inspired by the Islamic State group and expressing a desire to kill.

The driver killed 15 people as he steered around a police blockade and slammed into revelers before being shot dead by police.

The FBI said it does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found guns and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device in the vehicle along with other devices elsewhere in the French Quarter.

Louisiana’s top lawyer is vowing an eye-for-an-eye for those believed to be involved in the Bourbon Street terror attack.

The post comes after a horrifying massacre where a suspect drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street, killing 15 people. The driver, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas and an Army veteran, is dead following a shootout with officers.

The FBI is investigating the attack as an act of terrorism.
