Law enforcement leaves Annie Guthrie's home after hours of activity inside

Law enforcement left Annie Guthrie’s home at 10:30 p.m. local time after spending about two and a half hours at the residence Saturday evening.

At least four members of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the property in two unmarked white SUVs and a white truck, marking the first extended law enforcement activity at Annie Guthrie’s home in days.

As police left the residence, Fox News Digital observed a deputy loading a white case into his vehicle, which he had carried inside earlier, along with what appeared to be a grocery-size brown bag.

Law enforcement appeared to begin taking pictures in the garage before moving to the opposite side of the home, where three bedrooms are located.

White photography flashes were visible inside the home and garage. A jacket was placed over one of the home’s windows, blocking it from view of media outside.

While outside the home, Fox News Digital's Sarah Rumpf-Whitten and Michael Ruiz reported hearing clanking noises coming from inside, suggesting law enforcement may have been moving items.

It remains unclear whether anyone is currently residing in the home.

On Thursday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department declined to say whether any of Nancy Guthrie’s family members had been ruled out as suspects in her disappearance.

On Saturday morning, Fox News Digital learned the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff's Department are looking for an unidentified male in connection with the case after two plainclothes officers visited a gas station near Nancy Guthrie's home.

A gas station employee told Fox News Digital that local and federal authorities asked to review surveillance video related to what the employee described as “some guy.”

“They just showed up,” the employee said. “They asked if they could see camera footage.” When asked what authorities viewed, the employee said investigators did not provide details. “They said they were looking for some guy who got away,” the employee added. “No description.”

Sheriff leading Guthrie case spotted at basketball game as family issues new plea

The sheriff investigating the apparent kidnapping of "Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother was spotted sitting near the front row at a college basketball game Saturday night, even as Guthrie and her two siblings posted a plaintive plea on Instagram for the safe return of their mother.

Fox News Digital obtained photos of Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is facing increased scrutiny as the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance drags on, attending a matchup between the University of Arizona and Oklahoma State.

Early Sunday morning will mark one week since Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her suburban Tucson home.

The source of the photos, who requested anonymity, slammed Nanos for attending the game while the search continues.

"I think it wasn’t a good move. This whole thing being so fresh and nationwide, maybe worldwide," the source said. "I don’t think it was good for him to do it. He’s a major part of the investigation, so it didn’t look good to me. Very sad to see him at the Arizona basketball game."

Only minutes after the game ended, Savannah Guthrie and siblings Annie and Camron shared a third message on the NBC star's Instagram page, pleading with possible ransomers to contact them.

Nanos has come under fire in recent days for his handling of the investigation.

This is an excerpt from an article by Fox News Digital's Peter D'Abrosca and Alexandra Koch.

Guthrie family's latest video reflects growing 'desperation' as search continues: former FBI agent

Former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker said Saturday that the Guthrie family’s latest video reflects growing “desperation” as the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.

“What I hear is desperation. Obviously, they want their mom. They need their mom back,” Parker said on Fox News' "The Big Weekend Show." "… We were told in the initial stages that she could only survive 24 hours without her medication. And clearly it's been well over 24 hours."

Parker said she believes the family’s public plea is a response to a “second message” authorities confirmed Friday was received by a local news station.

Based on her investigative experience, Parker said offenders in these types of cases often want to buy time.

“In my opinion, what the offender needs and is wanting and has been wanting since this occurred is time,” she said. “They need time. That is what they want, and that's what they've been getting. And frankly, what this family is now doing is they're saying, 'Look, we're ready to pay. Where are you?'"

Parker also emphasized the FBI and local authorities are deploying advanced tools — including behavioral analysis and cell phone tracking.

“The Guthrie family — Savannah and her siblings — I mean, they want the best outcome possible," Parker said. "And they are doing everything in their power to bring their mom home alive."

Savannah Guthrie releases new video amid search for mother

Savannah Guthrie shared a new video on her Instagram account Saturday, saying her family had received a message and was pleading for the return of their missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.

"We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her," Savannah Guthrie said, seated between her siblings, Annie Guthrie and Camron Guthrie. "This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay."

The post, shared on the seventh day of their mother’s disappearance, marks the third video Savannah Guthrie has shared in recent days calling for her mother’s return after Nancy Guthrie disappeared Sunday.

Unlike the first two videos, this message did not include a request for proof of life.

The new video was posted one day after authorities confirmed that a “new message” related to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance had been received by a local news station.

Sen. Mark Kelly says Savannah Guthrie called him before news of mother’s disappearance went public

Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., said Savannah Guthrie personally contacted him before news of her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance became public, prompting him to immediately reach out to local law enforcement.

Speaking with CBS News on Friday, Kelly said Savannah Guthrie called him because she knows he lives in Arizona.

“Before it was public, Savannah called me, you know, because she knows I live here," Kelly said. “And then I called the sheriff, and I called the Tucson police chief, so that was, you know, that was mid-afternoon on Sunday, and Savannah was on the way to the airport to fly here and obviously rather upset."

Kelly added that he has remained involved since learning of the disappearance.

“I've been doing whatever I can do,” he said.

Kelly visited the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Friday afternoon amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie to drop off coffee and donuts.

“They’re working long hours to find Nancy Guthrie, and I encourage anyone who may have information to reach out to the Sheriff’s office," Kelly wrote on X.

Retired police chief says investigators may go quiet as Guthrie case advances

A retired Texas police chief said Saturday that law enforcement may be deliberately limiting the release of information as investigators move through a critical evidence-gathering phase in the Nancy Guthrie case.

Retired Fort Worth Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead told Fox News "Fox Report" anchor Jon Scott that collecting data and narrowing in on isolated targets and leads must be done “exactly right” to protect the integrity of the investigation.

“I would imagine throughout this weekend, by the time we get to Monday or Tuesday, they're going to have some strong evidentiary leads, and then they will go very, very quiet as they focus on those isolated leads and [build] a strong case against the perpetrator and/or suspects involved,” Halstead said.

Halstead said that identifying who sent the messages connected to the case will take time.

"It is not instantaneous, but rest assured that they are going to have some significant technology advancements as to those ransom notes and the other email-based communications," Halstead said.

Halstead added that the seizure of the blue Subaru was likely “evidentiary in nature,” noting that details surrounding it will likely become public after an arrest is made.

Former homicide detective suggests multiple people involved in Nancy Guthrie disappearance

Former D.C. homicide detective Ted Williams told Fox News on Saturday that he believes more than one person may have been involved in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

“I got on the ground here last night, and I immediately went over to the crime scene area,” Williams said, speaking outside the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Tucson. “... I came away with a feeling here, and that feeling is that there was more than one person involved here.”

He also said the person or people involved appeared to have familiarity with the property, noting that the 41-minute window between entry and exit does not align with a typical burglary, where suspects usually move quickly.

"I think that the individuals involved in Nancy going missing definitely knew that they didn't have to worry about law enforcement immediately rushing there because they would have gotten out of there … a lot sooner, should we say, than 41 minutes," Williams added.

Earlier in the day Saturday, Williams was critical of law enforcement’s early handling of the case.

“What they have done, unfortunately, and they need to realize it, is they've contaminated that crime scene."

Husband of kidnapping victim says one tip could ‘turn the tide in a case like this’

Nathan Lee, the husband of 2008 Florida kidnapping victim Denise Lee, told Fox News “Saturday in America” that he is “still really hoping” that the Nancy Guthrie case “comes to a positive resolution,” and stressed the importance of witnesses providing tips.

“There were multiple witnesses in my wife’s case that could have saved her life, but sadly... the 911 system didn’t work the way it was supposed to and that is why I’ve worked so diligently over the last 18 years to try to make that right and to try to support that industry that’s got to be one of toughest jobs out there,” Lee said.

“But there were multiple people that we found out that came forward after Denise was already found and she was killed that didn’t call 911, that didn’t report things they saw, so you never know what help and what you witnessed could really change the outcome and turn the tide in a  case like this,” he continued.

“So if you see something, please, because it could have saved my wife’s life if a couple of those people would have made a 911 call,” he added.

The Denise Amber Lee Foundation said in her case in January 2008, “One brave witness even stayed on the phone for more than nine minutes, following the car, naming cross streets, and providing an exact location. Yet, despite her efforts and the proximity of several patrol cars within a mile of where Denise was being held, inefficiencies and communication failures within the 911 system prevented help from ever being sent.”

WATCH: Investigators visited gas station near Guthrie home seeking info on potential suspect

Investigators visited a gas station near Nancy Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Arizona, Friday, seeking information about a particular individual as part of their probe into the disappearance of "Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother.

Surveillance footage obtained by Fox News Digital shows two plainclothes law enforcement officials at the gas station, located about 20 minutes from Guthrie’s home. A gas station employee told Fox News Digital that both local and federal authorities asked to review surveillance video related to what the employee described as “some guy.”

“They just showed up,” the employee said. “They asked if they could see camera footage.” When asked what authorities viewed, the employee said investigators did not provide details. “They said they were looking for some guy who got away,” the employee added. “No description.”

As of Saturday, authorities have not publicly identified a suspect. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for comment.

Second note shows captors ‘are confident they are not going to be found,’ retired FBI agent says

Retired FBI supervisory special agent Lance Leising suggested on Fox News’ “Saturday in America” that the emergence of a second note in the Nancy Guthrie case shows that those behind her disappearance are "confident they are not going to be found.”

A second message was sent to a local news station on Friday in connection to the case. The message reportedly does not include proof of life or a way for Guthrie’s family to communicate with the suspected abductor or abductors.

“It’s interesting that they are committed to sending a second one if it’s the same person. Because they are confident they are not going to be found, they are confident they are using anonymizers and changing their IP address and running it through a bunch of different countries, potentially, to avoid being tracked,” Leising said. “But they are not offering anything that would authenticate they are the kidnappers.”

Former NYPD sergeant on what FBI's expanding role in Nancy Guthrie case means

The FBI has expanded its role into the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, which could be bad news as the family eagerly awaits updates about her status, according to one former police officer.

In a Thursday press conference, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Field Office Heith Janke said the federal law enforcement agency is now working jointly with the Pima County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

"That means the FBI is in charge, which means one or two things. She’s dead, or they crossed state lines — or both,” said Joseph Giacalone, a former NYPD sergeant and cold case investigator on the FBI’s expanding role in the search for Guthrie.

The act of kidnapping and either of these factors gives the crime a federal nexus, he added.

New drone footage shows broken floodlight removed from Nancy Guthrie’s home

Drone footage captured Saturday by the Fox Flight team showed that a broken floodlight on the rear of Nancy Guthrie’s property has been removed.

The FBI said earlier this week that a possible ransom note in Nancy Guthrie's disappearance sent to a news outlet mentioned a "floodlight." Fox News Digital found two possible floodlights outside her house, and the Fox Flight team also found another two floodlights in Nancy Guthrie's backyard, one of which is broken.

Two broken floodlights previously could be seen dangling from a wire in the back of the house. During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Heith Janke, special agent in charge of the FBI's Phoenix field office, said the possible ransom note contained the mention of a floodlight at Nancy Guthrie's house.

"Yeah, the ransom itself. One talked about an Apple Watch and one talked about a floodlight," he said. "And we're not going to go into specifics. It's very important that we keep this investigation moving forward.

Everything we know about Nancy Guthrie's ransom note as sheriff says she was abducted

Two news outlets received possible ransom notes relating to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, which reportedly contain "sensitive information" that may only have been known to the person who took her.

Information about the contents of those notes has trickled out after they were received Monday evening and Tuesday morning, respectively.

On Thursday night, TMZ's Harvey Levin spoke with Fox News' Sean Hannity on "Hannity," and provided more insight into the alleged ransom note his newsroom received.

"The letter begins by saying she is safe, but scared, and they go on to say she knows exactly what the demand is," he said. "And so they are, you know, through us, telling the family and obviously the sheriff's department gave the family the letter we received, exactly what they're demanding, and they're saying that Nancy is aware of it."

He said the contents of the note also made him believe that the person who wrote it is in the Tucson area.

"There is a phrase in this email that absolutely makes me believe this person who wrote this, and if they're telling the truth, that Nancy is within a radius of the Tucson area — not in Tucson right now, but in a radius. It could be New Mexico. I don't know how far, but I think at least what the authorities have is they've got a radius, and that's something."

He also confirmed that the note included a demand for money in the form of Bitcoin.

Early Friday afternoon, Levin released a video drawing a radius around Tucson where he believes, based on information gleaned from the ransom note, Guthrie is possibly being held.

Timeline: NBC host Savannah Guthrie’s mother disappears

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted or kidnapped from her Tucson home, where she was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.

Investigators say Guthrie was forcibly taken from the residence and did not leave on her own, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that investigators are reviewing new correspondence related to the case.

In a social media post, authorities said, "The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are aware of a new message regarding Nancy Guthrie," adding that investigators are working to determine the authenticity of the message.

The statement came nearly 24 hours after a 5 p.m. deadline passed in an alleged ransom note sent earlier this week to local news organizations and TMZ. Local CBS affiliate 13 News said it also received a copy of the message Friday morning and forwarded it to law enforcement.

Savannah Guthrie’s friend says ‘I think we are all just praying for a breakthrough’

Carry Media founder and author Paula Faris said on “The Will Cain Show” that “I think we are all just praying for a breakthrough” in the Nancy Guthrie case.

“I texted Savannah earlier this week and just said, ‘the prayers of a nation are with you, we are just praying wisdom over this investigation and the investigators,’” Faris said.

“I know all she wants right now is to be reunited with her mom Nancy, our hearts are just breaking for her,” she told Fox News' Brian Kilmeade.

“I think we all feel so helpless right now, the family feels helpless, we feel helpless, but I wanted her to know that we will continue to tirelessly pray for her,” Faris also said. “I am a woman of deep faith, she is a woman of very deep faith too and Brian it’s hard for us in these moments to wrap our mind like, why does God allow this to happen? The Bible does tell us in this world you will have trouble but take heart, I have overcome the world.”

Trump says FBI nearing 'definitive' answers in search for Nancy Guthrie

President Donald Trump told reporters onboard Air Force One late Friday that the FBI may be nearing “definitive” answers in the search for missing Nancy Guthrie.

"I think we're doing very well on that regard," Trump said. “We have some clues, I think, that are very strong. And I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon."

"I'm talking about a solution. We have some things I think that will maybe come out reasonably soon from DOJ or FBI, or whoever," Trump continued. “It could be definitive.”

“A lot has taken place in the last couple of hours. A lot of things have happened with regard to that horrible situation in the last couple of hours,” Trump also said.

FBI, police are likely ‘zeroing in’ on Nancy’s captors after vehicle was seized, former agent says

Former FBI special agent Stuart Kaplan told “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Saturday that he believes the “FBI and its partners are zeroing in” on Nancy Guthrie’s suspected captor or captors after a vehicle was taken away from her property yesterday.

“I think the FBI and its partners are zeroing in and that the noose is getting tighter and tighter. I think every time you see law enforcement go back to the house, they have in some capacity, additional digital footprints that require them to go back and corroborate or to dismiss or dispel or to confirm,” Kaplan said.

“And I see this latest event of taking this car, may be one of those confirmations. It may be that this car may have been shared with someone else,” Kaplan continued.

“We haven’t heard a lot about people that would come and help or assist Nancy, whether it was home healthcare aides, or just people that would come and maybe take her to the supermarket or to the beauty parlor,” Kaplan added. “If in fact this car may have been commonly used, they may have retrieved this car for forensic analysis to see whether or not there is any fiber or hair samples, or GPS tracking to see if in fact prior to last Sunday, was this car used by someone to go somewhere?”

Cybersecurity expert says new Guthrie message reviewed by FBI suggests a ‘very-sophisticated scam’

Morgan Wright, a cybersecurity expert, told “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Saturday about the potential of a “very-sophisticated scam” unfolding after it emerged that a second message was sent to a local news station in connection with the Nancy Guthrie case.

The message reportedly does not include proof of life or a way for Guthrie’s family to communicate with the suspected abductor or abductors.

“If they actually have Nancy and they can prove it, then why not send a picture?” said Wright, who is also the CEO and Founder of the National Center for Open and Unsolved Cases.

“What they are trying to do is increase the emotional pressure,” Wright said before speaking about the first reported ransom message in the case. “If you think about that – if they sent it to family and only the family, or to Savannah even at NBC, it would have stayed in a closed system. But why did somebody elect to send a message to TMZ of all places? Because TMZ is not going to sit on this, they are going to broadcast it, which is what they did.”

“A lot of this is designed to exert pressure on the family, and national pressure. To that point, I don’t know what the purpose of the second message was other than to say ‘no, no, we really mean it, you got to do something,’” he continued.

“But the family is still asking, we need proof of life, we need something to say if we are going to negotiate with you, you have to give us something in order for us to show that we can continue these negotiations,” Wright added. “Because without something verifiable, incontrovertible, what you have is the hallmarks of a very-sophisticated scam as opposed to a true ransom communication.”

Reporters outside Nancy Guthrie's home point out darkness of area: 'Can hardly see my feet'

Fox News' Matt Finn shared a video from the street outside of Nancy Guthrie's home in Pima County, Arizona, on Friday showing how dark the area is at night — a result of regulations on outdoor lighting within the county.

Guthrie's home is in the Catalina Foothills, an unincorporated community north of Tucson. Finn shared a video to his X account showing that the only light was coming from the cars and equipment of other news crews outside the house.

"This is how dark it is in the Guthrie neighborhood, the Catalina Foothills. Stepping away from the light of cars and news crews, I can hardly see my feet in front of me," he wrote, in part.

Pima County is one of a handful of counties in the state with regulations on outdoor lighting, which aim to "preserve the relationship between residents and their unique desert environment by protecting access to dark skies and promoting responsible lighting practices," according to the City of Tucson's website.

The regulations, which have been in place for decades, are recommended by the Outdoor Lighting Code Committee.

"The code aims to minimize obtrusive and excessive outdoor lighting, safeguard the night sky for astronomical activities, and reduce energy waste, all while ensuring safety, security, and the enjoyment of nighttime activities. By regulating outdoor lighting, OLCC seeks to enhance the community’s connection to the desert environment and support sustainable, thoughtful lighting solutions," the city's website reads.

Vehicle towed from Nancy Guthrie's home as Trump speaks on investigation

A tow truck was seen towing a vehicle from the driveway of Nancy Guthrie’s home Friday evening as the investigation into her disappearance continued.

The truck towed what looked like an SUV from the property. FBI agents were seen earlier in the garage of the home where a blue SUV was parked.

It was not immediately clear why the vehicle was removed.

Fox News Digital later observed the tow truck on the road accompanied by a police escort from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The development comes as President Donald Trump said Friday that “a lot” has taken place in the last few hours in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie and that he believes answers may be imminent.
