Two LAPD officers bring some Christmas cheer to 94-year-old WWII vet

When neighbors of 94-year-old Herman Perry hadn’t seen the World War II veteran around the apartment complex for a few days, they got worried.
On Friday they finally called police to do a welfare check on Perry, who has lived in the same unit for 29 years.
“We’re concerned,” one neighbor told Fox 11 in Los Angeles. “He’s single with no children, and we all got to take care of each other.”
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Officers Abel Torres and Natalie Nuñez paid Perry a visit and found him healthy.
“He did mention that he hadn’t had visitors in quite some time,” Officer Nuñez told reporters. “That pulled on the heartstrings a little bit.”
After the call, the officers went to a nearby lot that sells Christmas trees and the owner agreed to give them a tree already decorated with lights to give to the veteran.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Torres and Nuñez returned to Perry’s apartment after their shift was over.
“When he walked down the hallway, it was more of a strut,” Officer Torres said. “He didn’t even need a cane.”
Perry is grateful for the gesture, telling Fox 11’s camera, “All I can say is, ‘Thank you.’”
