Pope asks Mexican tourist in Rome to get the tequila ready for his February visit
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Apparently, Pope Francis doesn’t consider tequila to be the devil’s brew the way so many others do.
Late on New Year’s Day, a Mexican visitor to St. Peter’s Square called out to the Argentinian pontiff, “We’re waiting for you in Mexico!”
Francis walked over, apparently not having heard because of the other screams from the crowd. “Mexico!” the visitor, a Mexican monsignor named Carlos Alberto Cardona, yelled again, “We welcome you to Mexico in February.”

After being assured, “With a lot of tequila,” the pope walked away smiling.
The whole exchange lasted less than 20 seconds, but made a big impression online, having been viewed more than a quarter of a million times in the monsignor's Facebook post alone.

The pope is scheduled to visit Mexico on Feb. 12. His schedule in the country will include saying Mass at the Basilica of Guadalupe and visits to San Cristóbal de las Casas and Tuxtla Gutiérrez in Chiapas, Morelia in Michoacán and Ciudad Juárez on the border with Texas.
