Selfies have become so popular that they have their own song. The #Selfie music video has been viewed almost 12 million times on YouTube.

The song pokes fun at the do-it-yourself snapshot craze, but make no mistake, selfies are serious social media business.

Ok, no they are not, but they are hugely popular. Lighting up Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Time Magazine put the science of math behind selfies to determine which cities in the world produce the most, and people in Miami take a lot of social media self-portraits.

"I'm glad I'm from Miami and I'm glad Miami is number one for selfies, I guess," one man said.

Well, not quite. Miami didn't quite take the cake. According to the magazine, Miami came in third.

"Oh, number three. Number three, whatever. We're on the list!" the man said.

Time's analysis indicated Miami has 155 selfie-takers per 100,000 people. A map showed where they were snapped and uploaded to Instagram, tagged selfie and using geographic coordinates.

The magazine ranked 459 cities across the world cities.

"I take selfies all the time and I'm cocky, I just took one right now," Brittany Garcia said while out on Miami Beach.

OK, so maybe people in Miami are a bit self-absorbed, evident when talking to out-of-town visitors.

"We're from England, so we definitely agree with that," Jade Shakh said. "Because everywhere we look, everybody's taking selfies, like everywhere."

"I don't have too much to say about it. I don't know about this thing," another man said.

"Selfies are the pictures you take of yourself," one woman replied.

Yes, now that we have the basics down, time for some expert selfie taking advice.

"The art of taking a good selfie is to make it look like it's not a selfie at all," Shireen Sandoval said. "So do not show too much of your arm, but be creative. "Make sure it's lit well and always remember to smile."

The bottom line, not all selfies are created equal.

The most retweeted selfie of all time is Ellen Degeneres' star studded snapshot from this year's Oscars.
