So, we asked celebrity makeup artist, Amanda Shackleton, and beauty expert, Vanessa Elese, to share their secrets for achieving a bright and flawless face for spring. PHOTOS: The Edgiest Looks For The Season “In the springtime, we tend to spend more time outdoors, “ says style and entertainment expert Hilary Kennedy. “The harsh sunlight can add lines, shadows, and tiredness to our faces. So, dewy glowing skin can restore youthfulness.” READ: Spring Cleaning For Your Skin The au natural look was a big trend in the spring 2014 runway shows. “The “less is more” trend has become the choice for many of the world’s top designers when choosing their runway makeup looks, and women everywhere are adopting the look in their everyday lives,” says Kennedy. - Before piling on makeup to cover up trouble areas, Shackleton advises women to first figure out their main skin trouble areas. “Spreading a ton of foundation on your face doesn’t fool anyone. It actually highlights your issues making it worse.” Elese recommends trying CC creams as an alternative to foundation. “Known as “color corrective”, CC creams bring all forms into function in one tube by moisturizing, concealing, correcting, preventing, and diffusing imperfections into a seamless finished product. These products often contain spf, which is another added bonus.” If you need more coverage, Shackleton recommends using a cream concealer that contains a neutralizer such as DermaBlend Smooth Indulgence Redness Concealer.read moreAssociated PressShare
- Blush and highlighters are important elements to creating a fresh and natural look. “In line with spring trends, the natural flushed cheek is all the rage,” says Elese. “I’m in love with Armani’s “Fabric Second Skin Blush” in shade #2. This pink blends into the skin with a luminous effect and transparent lit from within glow like you just took a brisk walk or run.” If you have deeper skin tones, Shackleton suggests using mauve and berry toned blushes. Highlighting, when used properly, can help accentuate your features as well as create a beautiful glow. Shackleton advises staying away from using anything too shimmery on the center of your face, and instead, focus on highlighting the upper cheek bone and the brow bone. Her go-to product is Nars Cosmetics “The Multiple” stick in “Copacabana” for light to medium skin tones, and “Lamu” for medium to deep skin tones.read moreReutersShare
- Both Elese and Shackleton agree that swiping a touch of blush on the eyelids provides a natural looking brightness. But, for the ultimate lift, “apply a pearlescent sheer eye shadow around the interior tear duct of the eye, brow bone and immediately in the center of your lid. This adds just the right amount of color to freshen up any face and highlight eye color with a natural flush,” says Elese. Shackleton adds that it’s important to keep the eyeliner simple. She says, “Keep the liner thinner in the inner corner, getting slightly thicker as you get towards the end. This creates a sexy almond shaped eye.”read moreAssociated PressShare
