Emily Ratajkowski does damage control after insensitive Instagram post

Emily Ratajkowksi has been the face — or, rather, the hair — of Kérastase for two days, and she’s already made people mad.

On Monday, Ratajkowski shared a skin-baring shot from her new campaign with the hair-care brand on Instagram, captioned, “Hair is a fundamental part of beauty, femininity, and identity. So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official!”

Her message didn’t exactly go over well with social media users.

“Hair is not a ‘fundamental’ part of beauty. There are people with cancer and other illnesses who are unfortunately undergoing treatment that causes them to lose their hair. Saying that hair is a ‘fundamental’ part of beauty is extremely shallow and it gives off the false idea that hair is a necessity,” commented one Instagrammer.

“Where’s the apology????” asked another.

Ratajkowksi quickly went into damage-control mode, updating her Instagram caption to something more palatable to the masses.

An error occurred while retrieving the Instagram post. It might have been deleted.

"So excited to announce that I am the new face of @kerastase_official ! Welcome good hair days! Shot by @inezandvinoodh #Kerastase #KerastaseClub #sponsored," she wrote.

Kérastase took a similar tack on their own Instagram page, posting, “ ‘Everyone is uniquely beautiful in their own way’ — We share this vision with Emily Ratajkowski and we’re happy to welcome @emrata to our #Kerastase family. #KerastaseClub.”
