Health officials are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman who bled to death after giving birth via cesarean section, the Trinidad Express Newspaper reported.
Chrystal Ramsoomair was a healthy mother of two when doctors delivered her baby last Friday at San Fernando General Hospital in Trinidad, but complications from the surgery led her to suffer significant blood loss.
An autopsy report found the cause of death to be hypovolemic shock, which occurs when severe blood and fluid loss makes the heart unable to pump enough blood to the body.

Ramsoomair’s family said they were told that two arteries were mistakenly cut during the procedure.
The Health Ministry has requested a "complete investigation” into the incident, and has contacted the family to dicuss their concerns and offer counseling.
"These three children my sister left behind are all babies,” said Ramsoomair’s brother. “What will become of them? They should receive some form of compensation, a trust fund should be set up. And those involved must be held accountable."
