Viagra Keeps Baby Girl With Heart Condition Alive

A baby girl born with a severe heart defect has survived three open heart operations and is stable because of the impotence drug Viagra, the Daily Mail reported.

Cerys Small was born in Newport, South Wales, in England, with a condition that makes her body turn blue because of a lack of blood circulation. After battling for survival for 10 months through three major heart surgeries, she is stable because the Viagra treatment gives her better circulation.

“We were giggling when they told us what drug she would need, but what many people don't realize is that it was originally developed as a heart drug,” said Cerys’ mother, Kerrie Small said.

Cerys’ other health problems include having no spleen and complications with her stomach and bowels.

The 10-month-old will continue taking Viagra until she is between three and five years old and strong enough to have further operations.

“But she's already proved what a fighter she is by coming through so many operations already, and she's still doing well,” Small said.
