Man survives knife in eye socket

Alberto Palacio Vizcaino, 22, a Colombian man living in the northern town of Soledad, was involved in a conflict with his ex-brother-in-law earlier this week. Daniel Del Valle Serrano, also 22, who had a relationship with the man’s 17-year-old daughter, started a scandal and attacked the victim’s family alongside other of his relatives. According to witnesses, Serrano took out a knife and stabbed Vizcaino straight into his left eye. The attacker then flee. The victim told news television Noticias Caracol: "He swore at me, took a knife out and when I took distance, he simply attacked" Vizcaino was taken to hospital and had to wait for 18 hours with the blade in his head for a team of doctors who can extract it. The knife penetrated 8 centimetres (3.1 inches) just on the side of Vizcaino’s eye and also pierced his brain. The victim added: "I tried to take the blade out myself, but I couldn’t, it was too stuck" Thanks to neurosurgeon Alberto Dau Acosta, who led the intervention, the man’s life was saved. Moreover, he kept 90% of his sense of sight and suffered no brain damage. The doctor told the media: "After taking out the knife, we made an evaluation and found pupillary reflexes" Alberto Palacio Vizcaino confirmed: "I see really clear, I don’t feel anything" Relatives have issued a complaint to police, but the attacker has not yet been found.
