Man survives impalement in head by dagger during gang fight

The victim, surnamed Guan, is said to have been involved in the verbal and later physical confrontation at a park in Guannan County, which is in Lianyungang City in East China’s Jiangsu Province. During the fight between the two gangs of young men, Guan was hit on the right side of his head by the dagger, which was thrown by the suspect, surnamed Sun. Amazingly, Guan managed to remain conscious, despite falling to the ground and losing large amounts of blood. Photos from the public square outside the park show the man being tended to by a number of passers-by, with the blade and its long handle sticking out from his head. Shocked witnesses called police and an ambulance to the scene, and authorities rushed Guan to hospital while detaining Sun for causing intentional harm. Now receiving treatment at Guannan County People’s Hospital, Guan is believed to have survived the ordeal after having the blade removed. But in spite of the promising diagnosis, it is unclear whether Guan will suffer from permanent or at least temporary neurological damage caused by the blade impaling his skull. Investigators, however, will have to call on witnesses and use surveillance cameras to determine the real chain of events as Sun claimed he only threw the dagger after he and his friends were randomly attacked by Guan’s gang.
