Mere days after undergoing high-risk brain surgery to remove a fist-sized tumor, an Oklahoma father saw his dreams come true as he was able to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.

Walter Thompson was diagnosed with an internal capsule glioma tumor in the middle of his brain, KFOR.com reported. Each doctor he sought consultation from told him it was inoperable, until he sought another opinion from Dr. Michael Sughrue at The Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City.

An Oklahoma father underwent a high-risk brain surgery just days before his daughter's wedding but he didn't let the procedure stop him from walking her down the aisle.

“I said [to Thompson], ‘You have one of the most difficult brain tumors we do,” Sughrue told KFOR.com. “There’s a real high chance, if not almost a certainty, that we’re going to paralyze you trying to take this out.”

Despite the odds, Thompson underwent surgery three days before his daughter’s wedding. Surgeons kept him awake during the procedure, talking to him and making him perform tasks on a peg board.

Sughrue and his team successfully removed the tumor without any complications, and Thomspon walked his daughter Ruth-Ann down the aisle while family looked on.

“I didn’t think I was going to be able to walk her,” he told KFOR.com. “That was a troubling thing in my heart. The day God laid her in my arms, she’s a precious young lady, and I’ve looked forward to this day.”
