Doctors perform open-heart surgery in street

Desperate medics performed open heart surgery on a woman after she was stabbed in the neck by a man she had been arguing with minutes before. The shocking incident happened in the Spanish capital of Madrid at around 11pm and the 55-year-old alleged attacker was arrested with the knife in his possession. He reportedly knew his 48-year-old female victim previously and stabbed her during a heated argument. Images show a team of paramedics and police working intently to save her life. She was wounded in the left hemithorax which affected her heart and her state was so critical that the medical team carried out a thoracotomy in the street so that they could massage her heart. The procedure involved opening her thorax in order to gain access to the organ. They stabilised her and continued to work on her in the ambulance to the hospital where a surgical team were waiting for her arrival. Local police accompanied the ambulance and cleared the traffic on the way to the hospital to get her there as quickly as possible. However despite all their best efforts the woman died on the operating table minutes after arriving in the theatre. The arrested man is currently detained and legal proceedings against him will begin once the investigation is finished. (ends) (Central European News)
