Boy, 15, Dies After Collapsing During Gym Class

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A 15-year-old Oceanside boy has died after he collapsed during a physical education class.

Police Lt. Leonard Mata tells the San Diego Union-Tribune that the boy was running on the football field at El Camino High School when he dropped shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Fire Battalion Chief Pete Lawrence says school staff tried to resuscitate him and used a portable defibrillator. Paramedics also were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

His name was not immediately released.
