More than 2,700 babies have been born in Brazil with microcephaly this year, up from fewer than 150 in 2014. Brazil's health officials say they're convinced the jump is linked to a sudden outbreak of the Zika virus that infected Pereira, though international experts caution it's far too early to be sure and note the condition can have many other causes.

A family in New York City is hoping a surgeon can perform a miracle for their little baby.

Sandy Diaz was born in Queens just over a year ago with a large mass on her neck, known as a lymphatic malformation. The noncancerous growth can be deadly if left untreated due to possible infection and blocked airways.

The family has tried a number of alternative methods to downsize the large growth, but nothing has worked. The final option is surgery, which was scheduled Wednesday.
