Family and friends of a 22-year-old British woman are grieving her death after doctors mistook a rare form of cancer as pregnancy.
The Independent reported that Demi Wright, a makeup artist, began complaining of pain in her side in November. When she went to the doctor’s office, tests suggested she had hormone levels associated with pregnancy, and the doctor sent her to the maternity ward.
But as months passed, her pain did not subside, and in February, doctors at Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge found Wright actually had adenocarcinoma— an aggressive form of cancer that affects multiple organs and was diagnosed as terminal. On Feb. 23, Wright passed away.
Wright’s parents, Chris and Roz, described their daughter as “bubbly, positive and cheerful,” according to Independent.co.uk.
"She didn't have a bad bone in her body. She had an infectious, beautiful smile and it showed her personality off,” Chris Wright, Demi’s father, told the Colchester Gazette. “It’s been devastating.”
