Two Argentine Toddler twins literally joined at the hip have been operated on to separate them from each other.
The operation involved 40 medical staff and took place in the Posadas hospital, in the city of El Palomar, in Argentinaâs eastern Buenos Aires province.
The two little girls, Luciana and Bianca Fernandez are one year and three months old and until very recently shared their large intestine, urinary tracts and a pelvis bone.
After various delays to reduce risks the over 12 hour long operation took place yesterday.
Their mother Paula Cecilia Lopez created a Facebook page in their name where she shares updates about the process and shares her feelings meanwhile.
She said: "My loves have just gone into surgery, seeing them like that breaks my heart, but we will be here waiting for them. I know that God is looking after you, we love you so much until infinity and beyond."
A following post after the operation said: "They have le tus know that they have separated them, thanks to God. We are happy for this great news but now they still have to adapt the organs.
"We keep waiting but I little bit calmer, thanks to everybody who are following for their kind comments and prayers that help us very much."
The weekend before the operation 100 people responded to a call for blood donations and came to give blood to help the little girls.
Now Paula, who lives by modest means, has asked netizens for donations to help her prepare her house and sterilize it for when her daughters come home.
