Which State Boasts the Most Taco Bells?

(Instagram/Taco Bell)

There are 5,604 Taco Bell restaurants in the United States, and it wouldn't be crazy to assume that the majority of those locations are situated in areas of the country where anything resembling authentic Mexican food is hard to come by.

That assumption would be incorrect.

Despite being one of the few states where you can get a real taco just about anywhere, The Daily Meal reports that California has more Taco Bells than any other state, with a whopping 964 operating within its borders. And although California is one of the most populated states in the nation — meaning that it's bound to have a lot of fast food locations in general — the Golden State far outnumbers Texas, its nearest competitor, in terms of Taco Bells.

Yes, Texas, another state that's not exactly a stranger to authentic Mexican food, ranks second with a total of 590 Taco Bells.
