How exciting can a potato chip get?

Since 2012, Pepsi-Co's Frito-Lay has tried to drum up enthusiasm for its new chips with the annual Do Us a Flavor competition that crowdsources flavor ideas from the public.

Past winners have included Cappuccino, Wasabi Ginger, Wavy Mango Salsa and Bacon Mac & Cheese.

After millions of submissions, this year's finalists are: Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro submitted by Texas-based James Wagner of the Air Force; Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries from Angie Fu of California; Southern Biscuits and Gravy from travel agent Hailie Green; and New York Reuben from Pennsylvania restaurant manager Jeff Solensky.

We took to the streets of New York to see what  hungry people think of the new tastes.

Overall the crowd seemed impressed with the deliciousness of the new flavors, although they didn't blow anyone away with their creativity.

One person, Kaleigh Morin, is a huge Lays fan, and claims the truffle chips, submitted by Angie Fu of Irvine, Calif., are spot on. “This is a truffle fry,” she said while eating the chip. “It’s like identical.”
