A popular vegan vlogger, known for her years of praising a raw vegan diet, has come clean about eating animal products after video was taken of her eating fish at a restaurant, according to other YouTubers.

The YouTuber and lifestyle guru, who goes by Rawvana, has been hosting a Spanish and English vegan vlog for the past six years – touting veganism as the cure all to many ailments, such as alcoholism and poor sleep, and claiming the plant-based diet “completely changed” her life.

However, recently, the star was forced to open up about her secret addition of eggs and fish into her diet, a move she said she made two months ago due to complicated health problems.

In the 33-minute video, Rawvana, whose real name is Yovana Mendoza Ayres, apologized to her viewers for the recent break in her diet, and then launched into her entire history of veganism before going on to divulge her many health problems.

In the emotional video, the 29-year-old brought up her 25-day water fast, which at first left her feeling “on top of the world,” explaining how she lost her period for two years immediately following the nearly month-long period of time where she “only drank water.” She also revealed she was borderline anemic, and her hormone levels were pre-menopausal.

Ayres, who lives in San Diego, claimed she continued to have digestion issues and was diagnosed with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and was advised by a doctor to start incorporating eggs and fish into her diet, which she did.

In the video, Ayres explains how her digestion problems have been relieved since leaving the raw vegan diet and espouses that all bodies are different.

“I feel like I am doing this out of self-love,” she said of her new diet. “This is my personal experience. This is my body. Something that I’ve learned is that everybody is different,” she added.

However, her YouTube followers were not having it.

The video, which has racked up nearly 130,000 views as of Monday afternoon, has 5,800 dislikes compared to the 2,400 likes. Another vegan YouTuber — Mic the Vegan — said this was her first video to have so many more dislikes than likes. A number of commenters also blasted Ayers following the announcement.

“Another fake vegan stealing money from the community,” one user wrote.

“Making money off vegans to buy animal products. Sickening,” another commented.

“Honest, authentic, truthful? - weird words to use when you've been lying and gaining financially on the back of veganism since eating animal products. Even this video is purely driven to benefit you financially, 6 ads? - irrespective of your reasons for eating animal products, that's no excuse for being a liar,” another YouTuber wrote, pointing out that Ayers left her monetization option on for the video.

“So you're saying you would rather eat animals and their products then take an antibiotic pill? That's unbelievable. Wow,” another wrote, commenting on Ayers’ statement that a doctor said she could continue a vegan diet if she took an antibiotic. Ayers refused, stating in the video that she wanted to heal as “naturally” as possible.

Though not everyone has been critical of Ayers’ new diet. Ayers, who plans to continue her Rawvana pages, says in the video some users have reached out to her in private messages to offer their support.
