This Thanksgiving, nearly 35% of Americans surveyed are turned off by turkey
Popular alternatives are duck, ham, oysters, says butcher shop owner
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A new survey shows that nearly 35% of Americans consider turkey to be their least favorite food on Thanksgiving.
The survey, conducted by vacation website The Vacationer, polled 1,042 American adults, asking which traditional Thanksgiving foods they dislike.
Turkey ranked at the top of the list, followed by stuffing/dressing (about 32%) and ham (nearly 32%).

About 12% of those surveyed said they liked all the dishes listed.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The results of the survey were analyzed by Eric Jones, an assistant professor of mathematics at Rowan College of South Jersey.

"The data always suggests that turkey's prominence at Thanksgiving is fading because it is not liked by younger generations," Jones told Fox News Digital.
Jones said one of his biggest takeaways from the survey results is the "changing appetites across generations."

"Older Americans over age 60 are the least picky eaters," he said, noting that younger Americans "have constantly had more choices throughout their lives, especially with food, so they don't feel obligated to eat something they might not like or even to pretend to like it."
Jones continued, "Americans over age 60 are also the most likely to enjoy turkey. Only 24.02% of Americans over age 60 said they dislike turkey. On the other hand, 37.08% of American adults aged 60 or younger said they dislike turkey."

"We are taking a lot of orders for standing rib roasts, plenty of other beef roasts, pork roasts," he told WFXR, the Fox affiliate in Roanoke.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"In my opinion, Americans below 60 are more likely to be hosting Thanksgiving now, so they are less likely to feel obligated to have turkey and thus less likely to feed it to their children," Jones said. "This will continue the trend of turkey losing prominence and not being preferred."
