This week’s school lunch menu in Los Angeles sounds pretty great.

A fundraiser called Tacos for Teachers, organized in part by the Democratic Socialists of America and the International Socialist Organization, has been raising money to supply Los Angeles’ teachers with free lunch during the ongoing United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) strike.

“Help support striking Los Angeles teachers and their fight for public education by donating to Tacos for Teachers, the fund that brings taco trucks to the picket-lines,” a GoFundMe page for the Tacos for Teachers fundraiser reads.

On both Monday and Tuesday, taco trucks arrived to serve meals, coffee and snacks outside several schools across Los Angeles, including the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts in Downtown LA, with additional stops planned for schools in El Sereno, Boyle Heights, Venice and North Hollywood, per the LA Times.

On Tuesday, a Twitter post shared by the Democratic Socialists for America (DSA) confirmed that the Tacos for Teachers campaign had also partnered with the Los Angeles Street Vendor campaign, which had worked to successfully decriminalize street vending last year.

A tweet from the DSA further confirmed that more vendors showed up outside educational facilities associated with the California Charter School Foundation to serve food on Tuesday.

“Now let’s keep the momentum going,” the DSA added.

A similar effort to supply striking teachers with food was also organized by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on Monday, during which they handed out Tofurky sandwiches (in a campaign that included signs reading "Tofurky for Teachers," per LiveKindly) at the UTLA building on Wilshire Blvd., a PETA representative confirmed to Fox News.

The UTLA strike began Monday, with thousands of the 35,000 members participating after a deal with the Los Angeles school district regarding class size and higher pay, among other issues, was not met.

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), meanwhile, argued that it doesn’t have the funding to pay for the changes the teachers are demanding.

Schools in Los Angeles remain open during the strike.

The Tacos for Teachers GoFundMe further explains that any funds raised that are “not used on tacos” will be donated directly to the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools, a group aiming to stem the privatization of schools, and to secure funding for more community-based schools.
