Food items that create fanatical cult-like followers

The KFC Double Down: For those of you watching your bread intake here is a delightful little sandwich for you. Two slices of bacon, pepper jack cheese, and colonel sauce sandwiched between two pieces of original recipe chicken. This unhealthy treat was originally added to the menu as an April fool’s joke, but the joke was on them when fans demanded it be kept on the menu. (Kentucky Fried Chicken )

Conversation Hearts: Do you remember being in school on Valentine’s Day hoping your crush would bring you a little candy heart with a sweet message? Well you aren’t the only ones who go all nostalgic for these chalky sweet candies by Necco. Fans go nuts over the “Be mine” candy, stocking up when it becomes available in January. (Necco)

Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin coffees and Lattes: People wait year round for the first sighting of these sweetly spiced drinks. They usually hit stores in early September greeted with happy tweets and status updates. However, you better overdose on pumpkin goodness quick because post Thanksgiving they are gone. Of course, that means our other favorites are back, Holiday spiced treats. (Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts )

Mallomars: S’mors or Cookies? Thanks to Mallomars you don’t have to choose. These sweet little treats tend to melt in the heat. So Nabisco decided to only release them during the cooler months. True fans of the cookie will stock and freeze them to get their fix year round. (Nabisco )

Sonic’s Cherry Limade: It’s the most popular drink on Sonic’s menu. The perfect combination of sweet and tangy mixed with ice pellets to give it that slush constancy. Hardcore fans go at least weekly for Happy Hour so they can enjoy it half off. (Sonic )

McDonald’s Fired Apple Pie: What’s better than a warm baked apple pie? A FRIED apple pie! Unfortunately, this sweet greasy little treat is no longer available due to the push to make menu items healthier. However, this little guy has a huge cult following on Facebook. There are even location websites to help you find the few franchises that still carry it. (McDonald's )

Taco Bell’s Beefy Crunch Burrito: A 99 cent Burrito stuffed with rice, ground beef, nacho cheese, sour cream, and Flammin Hot Fritos. This flavorful and economical snack became very popular with the “forth meal” crowd or late night snackers as I like to call them. This limited time offer didn’t last forever, but fans are still trying to bring it back with Facebook campaigns like, “3 million fans to get back the Beefy Crunch Burrito.” (Taco Bell)

Jollibee’s Tuna Pie: Up until working on this slideshow, I had never heard of Jollibee’s or it’s Tuna Pie. To be completely honest Tuna from a fast food restaurant doesn’t sound too appealing.. It has a huge fan base though and I was determined to figure out why. This tasty little morsal comes out during Lent, perfect for those meatless Fridays, but the real kicker is the creamy pepper sauce on the inside. It drives fans wild. (Jollibee)

White Castle Sweet Potato Fries: The sweet potato is packed with all sorts of nutrients and it’s might tasty. Once fried it becomes out of this world. They are available in the fall and winter from $2.00 - $4.00. Make sure you get it with the cinnamon sauce; fans say you won’t be disappointed. (White Castle )

McDonald’s Shamrock Shake: Last year, this shake was back by popular demand and not just at limited locations, but nationally. It was the first time the whole country got a taste of the vanilla and mint swirls. This year be on the lookout for its return this St. Patrick’s Day. (McDonald's )

Wendy’s Premium Fish Fillet: This fast food sandwich is actually made of real North Pacific Cod. It’s lightly breaded in delicate panko bread crumbs and can be purchased during the time of Lent. Fans crave this beefless sandwich on meatless Fridays. It’s also a slightly healthier option for those of you who don’t observe lent. (Wendy's )

In and Out’s Double Double: This West Coast chain has the biggest cult following by far. Their signature Double Double burger is so popular all over the world that fans have friends freeze them and ship them. You can order the original or if you’re feeling wild get it Animal Style. (In and Out Burger )

Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Taco: Within two months of its release Taco Bell served 200 million of these tacos. It’s priced at $1.29 and is a nacho cheese Dorito stuffed with beef, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and cheese. (Taco Bell )

Peeps: Not just for Easter anymore, these marshmallow animals covered in sugar can be served up at any other Holiday during the year. They come in all shapes, sizes, and themes. Fans can now enjoy them more than one holiday out of the year. (Peeps Brand )

Girl Scout Cookies: Which are your favorites? Samoa’s or thin mints perhaps? Or maybe you are more of a Tagalongs person? These delicious little cookies could put the Keebler Elves out of business if they were available year round. Cookie season varies per state, but a true fan knows when it’s coming. Proud parents walk around the office with order sheets or some malls have cookie stands set up. These stands are great because the cookies are there to be purchased, no waiting on orders. Big fans freeze the cookies, but if you eat them too fast you can always order more on eBay (for a lot of money). (Girl Scouts )

The McRib: Last, but certainly not least is the saucy source of all this cult food research. The McRib usually returns in the fall to the social media sound of rejoice (i.e. status updates). However, this release was delayed to December with no official date. Fans took to social media again to log their complaints. The release has official been set to December 17th, but for those of you anxiously awaiting its return check out this McRib Tracker. (McDonald's )
