Chipotle accused of covering up for manager who put hidden camera in women's bathroom

A Chipotle Mexican Grill in Texas is being accused of covering up the actions of a manager who reportedly hid a camera in the restaurant’s bathroom.
According to a lawsuit filed this week in the District Court of Brazaria County, Texas, the plantiffs allege that store manager Joanny Castillo, 18, repeatedly installed a video-recording spy camera in the women's bathroom area and, when informed of the Castillo's actions, the restaurant’s corporate office tried to cover up the incidents. According to the suit, an unnamed woman and her 5-year-old daughter were filmed taking off their clothes and going to the restroom.
The camera was first discovered on Feb. 24, when an employee at the restaurant claims she discovered the camera pointing directly at her while she used the toilet. She suspected a Chipotle male manager of hiding the camera, but the manager claimed a customer left it by accident and he would return it to the owner, Click 2 Houston reports.

However, three days later, the same employee found the camera hiding in the bathroom again, “discreetly placed under the restroom sink in exposed polybutylene piping,” as stated in the lawsuit.
This time, the employee removed the camera and gave it to the general manager. When other employees learned of the incident, they demanded the camera be turned over to the police, but claim the general manager was reluctant and attempted to persuade them not to call the authorities.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}But one of the employees disregarded the general manager’s mandate and called the police anyway.
The manager accused of hiding the camera was eventually fired and arrested.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}After the incident, however, Chipotle told the Houston Chronicle differing information, maintaining that the chain was not involved in any type of cover up and immediately called the authorities upon being notified of the incident.
This isn’t the first time a hidden camera has been discovered in a public restroom. In July 2015, a mother and her 5-year-old son found a hidden cell phone in the women’s restroom of a Starbucks in California. The phone, which faced the toilet area, was set to record.
