We’ve seen beer made from all kinds of things from bull testicles, to whale meat to a brewmaster’s beard.
Now, Philadelphia's Dock Street Brewing Company is releasing a new beer with real brains –goat brains, that is--to coincide with the season finale of “The Walking Dead.”
Dock Street says the brains are roasted over hot coals to give the American pale stout an 'intriguing, subtle smoke' flavor. The 7.2 percent brew, named the 'Walker' after the series' wandering corpses, also contains cranberries, which were said to add a “sinister, bloody hue” and “slight tartness”, malted wheat, oats and flaked barley and fuggle hops.
The idea for the ale came from Dock Street’s head brewer Justin Low who is a fan the AMC show.
“More often than not, monotonous Monday cleaning rituals (labors of love for brewers everywhere) were spent recapping the previous night’s twists, turns, narrow escapes, or untimely goodbyes,” the brewery said on its website, “Dock Street wanted to brew a special tribute to the show. “
"The Walking Dead," a show about a group of survivors living in a Zombie-dominated post-apocalyptic world, premiered in 2010 and was renewed for a fifth season last fall.
The beer will debut on Sunday March 30, and if you’re in Philly you can swing by the brewery to see season four finale on a big screen.
